A Reason to Stay Awake at Night.
So we got a night time, it's a nice visual experience but what does the darkness really bring ?
A good reason to stay awake from time to time would make the survival experience much more interesting for many people. Something that perhaps makes the player leave the base at night and go out.

That is actually a really good idea! Crickets, Owls, and then the occasional howl of the cannibals, or the giggling of the muddies!
I would like that, too! And maybe you wake up because of it (not every time, but maybe if they are close)? And then you go back to sleep, or in worst case, they are around your base! That would definitely add to the "horror" aspect. Or better said, creepy?
Totally agree!!!
Also, maybe some thunderstorms at night? I don't remember that I ever heard that.

Cheers!

Agree, there's no incentive to explore at night other than the creepy factor. I think having the cave mutants/cannibals more active at night, perhaps even launching attacks on player bases. Those sound fx sounds good too. I am hoping this is still early days and they aren't almost done as the fear factor and story line need a lot of work.

Other games have implemented missions or things to obtain that could only be gotten at night, so I think it could be relatively easy to implement something. I recall a zombie game where you could only go in certain areas at night because during the day, it was certain death. An area that is only accessible at night would make the trek there at night or setting up camp in the region to access more easily at night would be good.

Agree with the sounds and sometimes them waking you up is a good call. I know there's a mechanic that won't let you sleep if there's enemies near, but nothing that interrupts sleep.. just prevents.Being woken up and needing to handle something at night is more horror than always being able to sleep til light.

Maybe somewhere to dig that's marked by something you can only see in moonlight? Just throwing out another brainstorm on it. Definitely a sub worthy topic!

I am playing in real mode and these days I have had a storm with heavy rain and thunder for 2 days all over the island, on the top there was a snow storm with blizzard, the night was really spooky non-stop raining with thunderstorm.

Maybe "real" days have more opportunity to develop a more convincing storm or rain?.

I'm also sure I hear crickets at night near the beach.

Hmmm, maybe I just didn't pay enough attention (which is, by any means, the most probable cause. LOL), or it was recently introduced?
I haven't played for a while, since I laid the game to rest for another couple updates.
Once I will play it again, I will keep an ear on it ;)
Thanks for pointing this out!

Cheers!

I just scrolled through patches and didn't see anything specific about night sounds being added. Its possible they're just general enough they didn't list it.. or maybe they were so far down in the initial mix? I did get to chuckle at seeing this listed "Dead babies now have buoyancy in water" Can't imagine the guy dropping off the kids at school then slaving over a computer for that"FIX" LOL

I'll check out beach at night. Is it possible areas have different night sounds?

Yeah, I was actually looking myself after reading that there are sounds and couldn't find anything either. As I said, most likely I didn't pay attention, or I was simply leaving my desk to get a beer, while I was sleeping! ROFL!
I would be interested in your observation as well, though! - As I said, I didn't play for quite a while, as I am waiting for further updates :)

Cheers, my friend!

you can recover rest by sitting on a chair or bench. I personally want to stay awake at night, the jump scare and fear to go out an adventure at night keeps the survival thingy realistic..

The thing that they might need to add is a sleep animation, then recovering some rest, maybe this could be a thing in (hard mode) instead of sleeping, skipping the night.

They should make an animation for sleeping / resting in bed so that when you play with your friends, if one of your sleep/rest gauge is low, someone will rest on bend and others will stay awake at night protecting the base, vice versa.. much more like of looking each other's back when somebody is resting.

This is a really interesting concept. It could be something that could be toggled on/off on gameplay settings. Call it night watch or something. In MP being required to guard other players that are vulnerable would definitely punch up the excitement. When everyone goes to bed, it could prompt a choice or randomly pick a person/people to stay up (maybe scaled with # of players). 2-4 players, 1 stays up and 5-8 players 2 watch.

Just some thoughts on it. I'd like to hear more people's ideas around this.

There is room for many ideas for sure =)

Perhaps something that keeps one on the toes, interactive sleeping is a interesting concept in my opinion. To start with instead of complete darkness perhaps some interaction when sleeping could be interesting. An option to awake or some actions that are only possible at night

Slightly more global illumination at night would help. Right now it's pitch black.
