This is not a survival game, far from it.
Don´t get me wrong, I am having fun. Playing on hard, turned damage on for starvation, at no point in time have I felt I was in a survival struggle. Nor do I reload to take advantage of spawning items, I feel personally that is cheating.

There is an abundance of food, clean water and tools to deal with the cannibals, the latter requires a bit of forward thinking and not settling your base by a road.

"Cannibal Master Architect" would have been a more suitable name for this title, that´s what most Youtubers are playing as, a few visits to the caves and there is little reason to revisit them ... get that item and get out. But mostly it seems people are having fun building, exploring the vast empty but beautiful landscape and gliding is my "cannibal´s" main hobby at the moment, not because I am going anywhere, there is nowhere to go other than the great beyond.

More or less ammo? Who gives a crap? An arrow or two to the head fixes everything, guns just add some FUN into the mix as this game ain´t about survival, it´s about building the biggest badass mansion and being a full fledged cannibal like everyone else on the island. That is exactly what the game offers currently, those like me who played to the end once have no intensive to take that ride again ... we have already seen the end. It´s about doing exactly what the game offers.

.... okay, you don´t really have to be a cannibal, but since Virginia and Kelvin already are ... you just started a new tribe.

I died twice in this game ... both times because I am an idiot and still fail to understand the glider mechanics fully, other than that it pretty much feels like living in paradise ... with a few caveats.

True

Survival lite for sure. Once you figure out the basics it's not really survival, far more of a psychological / suspenseful experince.

You have to eat and drink, that pretty much makes it a survival game. If survival damage still isn't working, that's because it's a work in progress. Considering the fact that it is there however, suggests the developers intended for it to work properly and it highly likely will in an upcoming update.

Now I'm the last one that will sit there like a parrot repeating "early access" but in the last game we had to boil water and I have a sneaky suspicion that this will be the case here as well eventually.

All that said, this game is as much of a survival game as the last game. Some would call it "survival lite" so what did people expect, a hardcore experience?

Saying it's not a survival game and admitting you eat people to stay alive is not the flex you think it is. :steammocking:
Just kidding!

I don't see survival as a catch all related to needing food and water. While those are aspects there is a whole spectrum of other elements. In this game its almost an afterthought.

"Survival games are a subgenre of video games which are usually set in hostile, intense, open-world environments. Players generally start with minimal equipment and are required to survive as long as possible by crafting tools, weapons, shelters, and collecting resources."

This is definitely a survival game.

I agree, its is a survival game no doubt.
It might not have all the elements that other games have, SCUM comes to mind with having to piss, ♥♥♥♥, eat, sleep, meds, bandages etc. This is very much a lightweight survival game. But isn't it FUN!!!

Urgh, I wouldn't recommend this. Worse story ever, and it's just wolves, wolves and more wolves. There is no variety and your only reward is taking a screen shot of your loot that you have to place on the floor in the snow because the game gives no craftable storage.

Try if you must, it's cheep, but be prepared for a grind of no reward other than a day count that no-one will ever know or care about.

Nah.. this environment is far from hostile even when enemies are literally set to hostile and definitely not intense. Open-world is pretty much the only thing i'd agree with.

The game's got major survival elements but as with the first entry the developers tried to balance the survival aspects with the building aspects. I don't think it was ever meant to be a hardcore survival game in the vein of, say, Project Zomboid.

I disagree. The bigger cannibals can knock you on your ass in the first hit and kill you before you stand. The description still matches whether or not you think it is too easy.

Goal is to survive the cannibals/mutants, not the wilderness

For veterans it is very easy indeed. There are almost no negative consequences. You can eat rotten food, you can eat people (in reality you'd die from it), you can drink unlimited amounts of water from the pond that frogs piss in 7/24. And the tarp makes building completely unnecessary.

However, the developer has already hinted that there will be more, it won't stay that way. I think the only reason it's so easy now is because the elements that would make it truly survival (wounds, infections, raw food, dirty water, etc) aren't ready yet and had to be made playable somehow because of EA. Hopefully it will be harder than that. There's another favorite of mine, a little hidden gem called "The Infected", it's also made by 1-2 people. I think they really nailed the survival/base-building part there.. You don't stand a chance there without building and cooking. Not as rough as Green Hell, just as reasonably difficult.
