Does the "2 strikes and you're out" rule ever reset?
You get captured once and you can escape. You get captured twice and it's game over.
In my latest saved game I saved it after I had been captured once, which means next time it's game over, or does it ever reset? If I play long enough will my first strike be cancelled?

If you die without recovering your yellow bag it’s game over in my expeirnce.

I’ve died multiple times when testing but as long as I got my yellow bag first I’d just get tied up.

Also may vary based on multiplayer vs single player (it varied in the original forest)

Yes, when you heal and sleep. Might only have to sleep, but why not heal, since you're plenty roughed up after being stored in the cannibal fridge?

Afaik in mp you respawn endlessly. In sp you have one extra life but you can reset it by restarting your game and I heard it also resets ingame after not dying again for two hours.

Forgot to say, yes, playing solo. Would be handy to confirm if the reset comes after 2hrs, a sleep, or a game restart.

I've been knocked down and dragged out no less than 70 times. I always do the exact same thing:

1. Free myself. Sometimes this means waiting around, tied to a stick, for a fight to break out between mutants and cannibals over who gets the first piece of me, other times it means waiting until the cannibals gather near the arse-chair to say grace before eating me, but escape first.

2. Grab my gear. Usually don't have to do anything more than walk over and pick it up. Mutants and cannibals fighting it out over who gets to eat me first keeps them distracted, as does praying to Jeffery Dahmer.

3. Eat pills/herbs - whichever I have handy to heal.

4. If there are only a couple survivors of a cannibal/mutant conflict, I kill the survivors. If they're still in a prayer session, I just leave.

5. Return to camp, finish healing, eating and drinking and get some sleep.

Has never let me down, and let's make that at least 71 times. Need to remember to pause first, then alt-tab. Now I'm goobered to a wall in a cave.

I have had this happen twice:

While stalking a cannibal, something else hit me from behind. I'm pretty sure it was a meat-slinky. When I came to, I was tied to a stick, but also under water a short distance from the shore, had to swim to shore after freeing myself.

Anyone else come to tied up under water yet?

It does reset, but only if you have saved, exit the save file, and go back in.

For multiplayer, my friend and I have never seen the death screen. As far as we can tell, we kept "dying" but we always respawned in a cannibal camp without losing anything.

That is 100% not correct. While it MAY reset your count on reload, since it resets pretty much everything else too, it is NOT required at all.

Can't tell you anything about multiplayer, as I haven't multiplayer'ed and don't plan to - y'all will just get in my way anyways. ;-)

But saving and recycling is definitely not a requirement.

Okay thanks for the info. I did read the above posts but I don't recall being immune to dying in single-player when I got downed again.

Although, I have been mostly playing in a multiplayer save and I swear we do go down many times before even being able to sleep but we never perma-died.
