Why is the game even called Sons of the Forest?

The only son in the whole game is Timmy and we don't even get to play as him. Where da sons at? Are they gonna add an update with some plot twist like the protag being some bastard son of Edward Puffton so they make all Virginia simps cry? Such a waste we don't get to play as the actual Son of the Forest

I really thought we were going to be Timmy.
When I realized we hadn't been Timmy the whole damn time I had the same thought.

Yeah I'm still not sure yet. I thought the title would imply that we are fighting the offspring of the mutants and cannibals from the first game but thats not the case. Although I did see a comment in a thread (forgot the thread name) that said the title may be a spin on the phrase "Sins of the father". Given the religious undertone in the first game and this one, this might be the correct explanation.

I kinda get your point but it’s called sons of the forest because the game is an actual son of the forest, it’s a sequel to the forest. The forest is the mother and sons of the forest is it’s son. It’s literally a child of the first game and it’s growing up right now in early access…. Honestly just a theory that makes sense but they will definitely expand on it throughout the next 8 months. What else where they supposed to call it, it is a direct sequel.

You responded incorrectly. You're supposed to ask if you can have some of what they're smoking when they came up with that "theory".

Perhaps because the title has nothing to do with Us, and is actually referencing the real sons of the forest - the cannibal leaders.

There's a video where someone spawned all enemy types, that included a large female cannibal that's not in the game yet. Maybe those Big Bertha's will be the female equivalent to the Heavy cannibals

Thing is, the cannibals actually tried female leadership, around 200 years before the missionaries arrived on Eatsu Island. They found a problem with this leadership structure though. Whenever their females leaders would make unpopular proposals and tempers would flare, and their female leaders would grunt "If you don't like it, you can eat me." they found themselves without leaders, and thus came to abandon the practice.

In The Forest during the end cutscene that was Timmy, I think, I'm almost 100% sure that he turned into a mutant in that cutscene I mean with the bubbles on his arm and everything. So that's why you don't play as Timmy

Cannot wait to see 7 foot tall females ruling over cannibal clans/villages. Perfect for a quick laugh just before blasting their heads off with a shotgun/katana. Just joking haha.. Unless??

Timmy did not mutate but he was suppressing mutations in the post credit scene for the first game. Timmy appears in this game, he is the guy wearing the green camouflage outfit and the scar on his face.
