Don't believe anything you Hear in movies. Even running water is dirty. You know there live animals in the Wood and even in water. There is dirt, ect.
Just because it moves, makes it not automatically Clean and save. It's Saver than Standing water but you can still get diarhee and other nasty stuff from it.
What river, where on the river? What time of year?
Would you drink from the Ganges after it passes by 300 million people? Unfiltered?
Just because its clear or running doesn't mean its safe to drink
You would not live long outside lol
Stop being stupid. This isn't a river in the middle of a city. This is out in the wilderness and it's not like it's the Amazon rainforest. Judging by the seasons and trees, the island seems very North American-like, which means water-born viruses aren't as much of a problem. Sure, it's probably not optimal, but drinking from a fast-running river is a lot safer than drinking from a stream, pond, or lake, and it's better than nothing.
This is a survival game after all. The way people are replying in this thread makes me wonder you you all think we survived up until now. Hint: People didn't always boil the water because they couldn't afford to and/or didn't see the need. I doubt the Roman aqueducts had giant filters on them either.
So, your best bet is water that doesn't freeze, even at subzero temperatures. Yes, that's right. Clean water, like really clean, won't freeze even at certain subzero levels. Those sources are more likely than not to be river water than any still-standing source, but not always.
Unlike in the movies, or some other story you may have heard, even river water can contain dangerous organisms that can cause such bad stomach problems that you may end up dying of ironically dehydration.
So, impurities and toxic organisms exist, regardless of the water flowing from a river, or waterfall. Even though flowing water is still much safer than still-standing sources.
But water that flows at subzero, that's probably the safest.
