Why so hard to expand a treehouse?

Wondering why it is so hard to expand a treehouse? I have found a few ways to almost trick the game into letting me expand it, but it takes a stupid amount of time for me to make it work. Otherwise, the tree house has about enough room for a bed and nothing else. That's no fun. :)

gonna have to agree with you there. its like i can place 2 logs one vertical and one horizontal and i cant place anymore just more leaning logs like why let me do that if i cant make more floors
