Many people that record videos and/or stream will separate their game audio from their system audio for volume and inclusion purposes (ie include game audio in their stream and block system sounds from being heard on the stream).
Not sure why the devs chose to be this forceful, but it's a PITA when you utilize multiple, purpose built, audio devices for your configuration.
You should go to the Sound Control Panel (many ways to find), easiest for me is Right Click on the speaker icon down in the toolbar, and then click Sounds.
A small window should open, go to the Playback tab there you should see all your audio devices.
Go to the device that is currently used for the game (which you want to change to something else), and just right click on it and press Configure Speakers.
It should now switch the game audio to your default speaker.
Unity has no option to switch default input audio, it always picks Windows Default.
You have to use mods or third party plugins to do that.
