Problems with the sound device selecting from Windows
If I have 2 or more devices, one could be the speakers and the other the headphones, if I have the game open I can't change the source of the audio output. I mean that the audio will continue to come out of the default device when opening the game.
I don't know if it's an isolated problem or if it happens to someone else.

You should exit the game before switching audio sources. It might work but sometimes it won't. This holds true for all video games. Switching audio devices and/or peripherals mid-game is not wise to do.

This is a problem for those of us who have software mixers (Beacn Mix\Create, GoXLR, etc...) as we like to have our games on a particular audio device so that we can control the volume of the game separately from the system. SotF forces the audio device back to whatever is selected as the default for Windows... this is not typical behavior.

Many people that record videos and/or stream will separate their game audio from their system audio for volume and inclusion purposes (ie include game audio in their stream and block system sounds from being heard on the stream).

Not sure why the devs chose to be this forceful, but it's a PITA when you utilize multiple, purpose built, audio devices for your configuration.

Thanks for this! It was driving me crazy why it wasn't switching to the correct channel. After changing my default channel to the one I wanted the game to use it finally worked... that is, until the next time I restart the game :steamfacepalm:

I have this same problem on several games. Changing audio output during the game has no affect. I have to log all the way out and back in to change audio output. This is not just a SOTF problem alone.

Had the same issue on my Windows, found a funny hack, not sure it actually works all the time but why not give it a try.
You should go to the Sound Control Panel (many ways to find), easiest for me is Right Click on the speaker icon down in the toolbar, and then click Sounds.
A small window should open, go to the Playback tab there you should see all your audio devices.

Go to the device that is currently used for the game (which you want to change to something else), and just right click on it and press Configure Speakers.
It should now switch the game audio to your default speaker.

It's a Unity problem. It's a crappy engine that devs should avoid as it's riddled with hundreds of issues like this.
Unity has no option to switch default input audio, it always picks Windows Default.
You have to use mods or third party plugins to do that.
