But yeah, they probably shouldn't go rotten since they are in the water and not technically dead.
I don't play for realism sake, but for realism sake I feel like I can't cook rotten food because... OBVIOUSLY it isn't going to make it unspoiled, ya know?
Actually, it might. Food spoils because of bacteria. You refrigerate it to slow that bacteria, which keeps your food from spoiling longer. You cook food to kill that bacteria.
If your meat spoils, it's because bacteria started consuming it and reproducing. Cooking it kills those bacteria just like it would have before.
That doesn't take into account by products the bacteria produce, but that's getting a little complicated and it is just a video game after all. Plus in an actual survival situation you might be a little less concerned about it.
The bacteria is a problem and killing them is a priority. but the bacteria is a problem also because it leaves behind toxins that don't die from being cooked. You absolutely can get food poisoning from cooked meat that has spoiled regardless of cooking and killing the bacteria.
