Eating body parts [Possible bug]
Hi!

So, I've started a game in which I'm mostly building a base. As I keep getting cannibals attacks, the most plentiful source of food is... well... body parts.

So I've noticed that when I try to cut their limbs they sometimes disappear (probably falling through the ground?).

When they don't and I try to eat it directly from the ground, it usually picks the body up at the same time, which usually puts me in a weird state. When I drop the body again I'm usually holding the limb and can attack with it, but I can't eat it nor swap the items. Usually it fixes after some time. When I eat it from the inventory, everything goes fine.

Despite all of this, I am also puzzled as to how little it restores your hunger meter. I mean, I never ate a arm or a leg, but the size of it I would expect it to have a bigger impact than a small piece of bird meat.

Anyone else experiencing these bugs?

I have had the bug you described, where attempting to pick up a limb makes you pick up the body instead and bugs out your character. You can fix it by reloading the game, it is safe to save in this state because it will correct itself upon reload.
As for the arm not restoring much hunger, that is because you ate it raw. Eating any raw food does that. Toss it in a fire until it turns a nice red color then eat it and it will restore a lot more.

Yup, I remember having the picking up bodies bug on my first day playing, just something I had to be mindful about. Just don't try to eat things that are next to a body that you can pick up. Also, pro tip: When in doubt, jump into water. It basically resets what you're holding, so it fixes any bugs tied to what you're holding.

On a similar note, I had a bug where I was holding four half logs and tried to skin a creepy mutant. I dropped two and was stuck looking in one direction, couldn't drop any more. Walking into water made me drop the rest, and then I got teleported back to the mutant to proceed with the skinning animation.

Anyways, as for how little it restores your hunger meter, I'd imagine that's meant to incentivize cooking the meat instead of eating it raw.

Jumping in water, I never thought to do that. That's a good tip, thanks.

Those are good tips. I guess I will have to build a couple of drying racks. Or is it better cooked than dried? I eventually just stopped eating from the ground not to bug it, but the water trick will be on my mind next time that or similar one happens. Thanks all. What about the body parts disappearing? It feels like a ground collision issue to be honest
