I’m almost positive this was intended. I don’t know why.

That's because the inside part of the door is facing outside. You have to rebuild the door from the inside, then you can place the stick to lock the door from the inside.

Tried this and no matter what side of the frame I build on the door always faces the same way

not sure but i think it not change if you stay inside or outside it depends on from what side you build the first piece of the door
if you stay outside build it from right to left or the other way if inside hope it helps

Negative. The door can only be locked from the inside. If the door can only take the lock and it's on the outside, you installed your door backwards.

I have the same problem and its clearly just another bug (from the millions already there).
I tried to build my door so often from every possible angle...no matter if inside, outside or whatever...i chopped a complete forest and tried to build the door like 50 times by now...it will always make the door wrong rendering the base useless only lockable from the outside. I tried everything countless times...building from inside, from outside, from left to right, right to left, recreate surrounding walls...everything...in every single instance the door is created wrong.

Let's elaborate on the logic here. The patch notes clearly say that when you place a door, the side facing you is the inside. This makes sense since the faced side of the logs are facing you while the unfinished bark side of the logs are on the other side. It also makes sense that the developers would code it this way because coding it so it goes on the outside of a structure no matter what is literally impossible. Because there is no determinable state of inside or outside of SOTF structures. You can make a wall with no floor or roof on either side and you can also make a door with roof and floor on both sides, as well as roofed on one side and floored on the other. You can put your bed on one side of the wall and a chair on the other, or you can build mirrored but otherwise identical structures separated by a wall with a door. Which side of the wall would the game consider to be outside in these examples?

The inside/outside state of a structure in SOTF is purely in the players mind; it is not a value that any program could determine within the building system of this game. So what is being proposed here is that it is impossible to build a wall with a door in this game unless the player considers one side to be inside and one to be outside and that the game is somehow able to determine which side of the wall the player considers to be the outside, which is a value that can only exist inside the brain of the player.

don't know if it matters or if you know but once your door is placed, you simply can remove it with "c" and then replace it. You don't have to build the door from scratch every time with single planks.

i have read the postings and still don't see a solution to why my doors do not face me when i place them. I get random placement and once i place it no matter how many times i remove it and try to redo it, it will always face the same way regardless of which side I am on. Does anyone have any useful advice since i have tried everything i have read so far?

Thanks, i figured after a while. In the end i was just standing on the same spot and rebuild the same door like 50 more times. After that the door magically got build correct without me changing anything at all. So problem fixed for me, cause hell this will stay the only door to my base for sure xD

If you look at the empty doorway in the wall, the construction arrows will appear on the left frame. The flat and bright sides will always face outwards when building the door. However, if you let the construction arrows point to the right, the flat and light sides will always point inwards. That's how I showed it in my video. :-)

When I place a lock on the door it automatically defaults to the inside, pointless. You should be able to lock a door from either direction.

Well, that is bc of the direction of the door. Realistically it makes absolutely no sense to be able to lock the door with a stick from the outside since the enemies could just fkin smash that lock open bc it is just a "stick" after all... U want to lock yourself IN to be safe and not lock ur base from the outside. If u are gone and explore the island the enemies are not attacking ur base anyway. U have to place the doors in the right direction if u really want the door to be locked from the outside so much...

Had a similar issue but just built the door the other way, not sure how as there is no prompt on how the place the logs the way you want them when you build the door.
