Is this game supposed to be super laggy for a PC like this?

My PC is
• GPU: MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1080 8GB
• CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4820K CPU @ 3.70GHz
• RAM: 16GB

Played the game for 1 hour on the lowest graphics possible and it averaged at 15-20FPS with the FPS dropping to 10 or a little less while exploring and 1-5 during cutscenes or going into/out of a cave.

Is the game just poorly optimized or my PC just can't run this game because I played The Forest with 144FPS at medium-high graphics just fine before.

Not the best procesor but even then
u shouldnt be getting such low frames

I'm running about the same hardware as you and I'm not experiencing any lag at all, I set my FPS in game to 60, turned off motion blur and chromatic abboration. I think I also lowered my draw distance a tad as well.

With FOV at 70 and the following settings, I'm getting 25-35 fps average on laptop's GTX 1060 (6Gb VRAM) with Intel i7-8750H 2.21Ghz and 16Gb RAM.

Keep in mind it is early access and the optimization will be done properly at the end of tweaks.

Your cpu does not meet the minimum requirements. It is very CPU bound both in singlecore and multicore performance.
