It either wasn't deemed important enough at this point to actually address, or was deemed not important enough to bother with in the first place. We are, after all, here on a search and rescue mission, not an advanced construction party for a beachfront condominium developer.
We're also not building on an airless world or below the surface of the water, so we don't need hermetically-sealed structures to keep the air inside. This also isn't Wuhan, and we're not constructing virology labs either, so no need to trap the air inside.
You'll still get the same protection from the elements with gaping holes along the roofline as would from a completely sealed roof. It's just a cosmetic issue, nothing more.
You gotta get to the same height with triangle, for arrow where to put the log, appear.

Half log on the outside support, 3/4 log on the inside support then either full logs or 3/4 logs to fill the middle gaps. There will still be a small crevice in the top left of the example I gave in the images but its better than a full half triangle gap.
A gable that only covers one square wide, nobody builds a house that's one square wide. People are building 3x3 at least and with that it's not doable.
