Way too frustrating
Yes, it's Early Access, but as we all know, there is Early Access and then there is Early Access. 7 Days to Die isn't even out of Alpha and it's stunningly complete and durable compared to this. You just never know how incomplete an Early Access title is until you buy it and try it. I'm sure it will improve dramatically during this Early Access period, so I'll check back again later. But for now, I'm tired of beating my head against a wall of so many bugs and bad design decisions. You can see the potential, but omg it's so not fun right now.

So here's my question. We've never played this franchise, but it is intriguing and obviously popular. Should we go try the original Forest before coming back to this later? I would assume it's more complete and stable, yes?

Thanks for any insights or suggestions.

7 Days To Die has been in EA for what seems like an eternity, seems like an odd comparison to me when this one just launched in EA a week ago. The Forest has been completed since around 2018 and a few bugs remain but yes relatively more stable. Both games have the similar design choices though like scattered clues and key items to get you to the end of the game. The base building uses the blueprint ideas and custom building feels much quicker than here so you may enjoy that one more for building large and elaborate structures. Don't expect elaborate survival mechanics either, it's a lite survival game too. I love the first game and I enjoy the immersion that this one is going for.

Lol. 7 days is in alpha like 100 years and will be alpha in the next 100 years....

7 days to die has been "in development" since before the first forest game was even created

7 Days To Die is trash compared to this game. This coming from someone who has played 7 Days To Die before it was even on a steam and only on there website. That game has gone down the train, while this game even before its first content update is better.

What a smart comparison...
7D2D has been getting updates for how long? 10 years or so?

this game is early access and still more fleshed out then most early access games, The original forest is superb just graphically inferior, but this game is released is a stable and enjoyable state, they have a year of early access to pummel out the bugs and add things. So impatient why even buy the game in early access if you weren't prepared for an early access game?

Your post lost me at 7D2D. 7 Decades 2 Develop. Gas lighting at its finest. Telling people it is Beta. Sure. Forever Beta. Just an excuse for never getting anything completed. Several games have been thought of, developed, launched, patched, DLC added, sequels made and so on in the time that 7D2D has been in development. And those are better games and developed by teams of similar sizes.

Since you'll have to wade through a lot of ♥♥♥♥-riding answers over this, I'll keep mine short.

Depends what you consider "bad design choices," because in a lot of ways this is a copy of the first game.

You should pick up the first one anyway, at least on sale because it's historically gone as low as 5 bucks.

I've had 7 Days to Die since Alpha 6. It's okay like it is now, but maybe you haven't been in it long enough to know how many sh*tshows it's had down through the years - and will probably continue to have.

It doesn't matter what position you take on any topic, there will ALWAYS be plenty of contrarian posts on the Interwebs that defy reality and defend the indefensible. I don't really care if my post "lost you" lol, yes, 7DTD has been around FOREVER but the point remains, they are both EA games and you just don't know what that means until you buy and try. Valheim is perhaps a better example, it was out for only a very short time before it was recognized as a great title. Disappointing content, but great building and one of the best sailing games ever. Too bad the small team got so filthy rich so quick and went off to buy Ferraris and scaled back their roadmap so drastically. Killed what looked like a great game.

Yeah, this game has only been out a week, but it shows, it shouldn't be out at all, it should be in closed development until it's stable enough to play. It's not in beta test, it's being sold sold for real money so it should earn its keep. It doesn't. It might eventually, but it sure as hell doesn't yet. Lot of potential, but one of the most frustrating gaming experiences I've encountered in a long time. I play a lot of EA titles and have frequently been pleasantly surprised at how fleshed out some titles are. Honestly, this is one of the worst gaming experiences I've ever had.

In any case, I went and loaded up the original Forest and I can see myself enjoying that one until this one is ready. I miss the hotkeys and having Kelvin to push around (when he isn't glitched trying to run into a mountain lol). Anyway, nice franchise, glad I found it.

Thanks for the intelligent reply Warriorsage. As for bad design choices, some of them I could be misidentifying as simply unfixed bugs. Not being able to drop items, seriously? There are some great design decisions actually, I love that you can reclaim resources without losing them. After playing Ark Survival for so long and having to scrap so many resources when rebuiding, it's refreshing to be able to reclaim logs and re-use them.

As for the progress of 7DTD over the years, yeah I didn't go through all of that, I picked it up at a pretty decent time, although I'm kinda gobsmacked at the redesign choices they're making for Alpha 21. Some of them are great, but some ... I dunno.

Anyway, I look forward to watching this develop over time. Meanwhile, I''m enjoying the original a lot more.
Why do you think it's even fair to compare a game that has been out since 2013 to one that just came out not even a month ago? Of course 7 Days to Die has more content. It would be concerning if it didn't. While I do understand people thinking it should of waited to come out a bit longer to have more features in it and less bugs, 7 Days to Die is a bad example to use

this game is a EA title sure the devs gave it to us EA rather then push the release date back again.

Comparing it to 7D2D is just insane 7 days will never be complete because every time to players find a creative idea and fun way of playing the devs patch it out.
A20 was literally just them taking away all the really cool things players had done in the past and making them invalid. I mean crap they gave us like 100 new building pieces if you like playing creative mode with no zombies and no survival elements otherwise because they destroyed any ability to play anything other then a very specific playstyle you can't actually take advantage of it.

Everytime players play the game the way they want and not the way the Devs want they make it harder to play that way. Hell at least in this you can become food stable without dedicating your entire build to being an unstoppable D&D style monk.

bad comparison...NEXT WHINER

beat the game 4 times now on hard and this time playing just been building and hanging out and so far 101 days and no bugs and still just having fun. maybe get good at games and stop crying. P.S 7 days to die has been EA for ages and it still sucks.
