No. I haven't beaten the game myself because I'm in no rush but I've seen that the armor is meant to protect you from the demon enemies near the end of the game. It offers little to no protection against every other enemy type.

You always take health damage with it, just reduced damage.

you get instant health damage, this armor works more like a key to a door

I dumped the golden armor and went back to my buffed (solafite infused) bone armor. Works much better getting though the final cave. That and explosive arrows.
