Trees don't regrow from stumps, and I'm honestly not sure they regrow much at all. I'm on day 70 on peaceful mode and have a ton of open areas that never regrew anything.

Who told you removing stumps made trees not grow back? It's actually better if you remove them. The game over time will spawn saplings around where the ground is clear.

If you leave the stumps, you're just limiting the space where those saplings can show up.

When the saplings do show up don't break them for sticks. They will eventually grow into trees. It takes a while though.

Hehe, I can't get rid of some stumps at all - they reappear after been cut down. And I like my fields clean.

I think people are of the notion that cutting stumps prevents trees from respawning because that is how the first version was. Also, trees usually respawned after 1 day if the stump wasnt removed. I dont think that works in this version, because I have a huge patch of stumps and nothing happens. I could be wrong here but I do think saplings grow back near stumps but they dont replace the stumps.

The stumps basically blocks a spot where a sapling COULD spawn.

Say you have a area of 20 points were a sapling could spawn. A stump blocks 4 of those points, so when the game rolls there's only 16 chances (spots) for a sapling to spawn. Removing the stump means that there's 20 chances for a sapling to spawn.
