How to use firewood in fire?

How do you put the firewood into the fire? If I'm holding in there is no option to add it to the fire....

Chop the logs in half lengthwise, then chop both halves into four pieces, grab up to four of this firewood and just press Left Mouse while aiming at the bottom of the fire. Make sure the fire has stones around it.

you take a quarter log cut it in half and then put those 2 halves in a "reinforced fire" (a fire with stones around it) once you do that the fire won't need fuel anymore (I think? at least mine didn't die yet)
