step one: Throw a log out in the water.
step two: start jumping on it until you get the feeling how to surf in sons of the forest by keep jumping on it.
Last step surf them sons of the forest waves to your wanted location.
Build a wall, wood or stone, on the edge of the island and do the same on the other side of the lake. You're able to shoot the zip-line rope at the top edge of the wall, which lets you zip-line back and forth without dropping you.
Very true, you can access the waterfall side of the lake without it being frozen over.
you can still build a base over on the islands by simply makeing a loglauncher setup with the zipline tough. this will launch the logs nearly all the way towards the shoreline of the smaller island. still gotta swim a bit and fish them all out in the end tough. but theyll make most of the distance.
gotta dumb down build options i guess. first game too complex for the mainstream. first game you could just swim with a zipline blueprint and place it down. cannot allow that here. would be too much creative freedom
Go to the destination and do the same thing. So you have 2 ziplines... one at starting point, one at the destination. Both very short.
After doing this save the game and quit. You don't have to exit the game, you just need to quit to the title screen. Find your save folder in windows and find the file ZipLineManagerSaveData.json. Keep in mind each save has it's own folder with it's own set of files. You should be able to use the last modified time to find the right folder.
C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\XXXXXXXXXXXXX\SinglePlayer
Open the file with the text editor and find the last 2 values of coordinates, those will be the last 2 ziplines you just created before saving. Each set of values has an anchorAPosition and anchorBPosition.
Take the coordinates of anchorBPosition in the first zipline you made (the second to last entry in this file) and paste it into anchorAPosition of the second zipline you made (the last entry in this file) ... save the file.
Reload the save.
You should have one zipline that's really long and connects to your destination and one zipline that's short going into the ground. You can remove the short one.
You can use this to make a zipline to turtle island for a base, to the top of the mountain with one zipline, whatever you want, as long as you have line of sight and clearance for your body, and with my OCD I've had to redo some to make them just right. My zipline network goes all over the map.

There's no comparison to how much more I've enjoyed the game playing it with long ziplines, but I was that guy who used shield duping in Tears of the Kingdom too. :\
