This isn't a shameless rip off. This is just how smaller teams develop sequels. We're just so used to big hit games being developed by larger teams that the development process goes quicker than what we're experiencing with SotF.
If you compare SotF in it's current state to The Forest, equally into The Forest's EA, SotF is remarkably and substantially better. Less bugs, particularly game breaking ones. And give or take, about the same content, arguably more SotF but it depends on what you're calling content. Map is bigger and better optimized. Textures, lighting is substantially better.
By trying to compare current state SotF to release The Forest is like comparing an orange seed to an orange fruit. One is obviously incomplete and not ready for ingesting.
You don't have to deep throat the devs so hard....this guy is a troll who thinks he's funny because people like you think it's serious.
The joke is that he's calling this game a rip off of the first, in the sense that the two are not related at all and that its almost fraudulent stealing of another dev teams work. Its what the kids call humor nowadays. This kid couldn't have digested the meaning of your post if he tried or wanted to.
Also don't gotta throw the deep throat insult around either. I have a lot of experience in game development. Providing a little more context to the development situation for SotF isn't deep throating anything. But if you felt the need to make such a comment yourself because someone else is providing some extra context to a situation, you should probably chill out and go find something better to do with your time.
No, I am good right here calling out the deep throaters of a lazy sequel. The Forest was an actual EA game, one year into its development it released...The game was done four years later. Five years for a full game, mechanics, story, map, performance, all squared away.
This game has been in development for five whole years now. This time they have a bigger team, the ground work is there for what they are building upon and the funds are juicy when the profits and success of the first game are known. Sons of the Forest in 5 years is not even equal to the first game in terms of development in ANY regard but the graphics.
The map is bigger and mostly empty. The combat mechanics only seem to be complete for the cannibals. There is no diet system, no sickness or sanity system. No intricate elaborate cave design. No intricate crafting design. Most of the game is a prettier version of the previous game with less content in it.
Same amount of time but with more resources, yet a fraction of its predecessor is present in a game that costs double in price. To defend such a swindle is nothing short of deep throating a company for giving you less product for more costs.
