What is the point of such a huge game map?
What's the point of making the map significantly larger than in The Forest?
The scenery looks nice, but there are very few really unique locations and I understand that this is early access.
But filling such a big map with any meaningful content would require a HUGE amount of work, and could potentially take many years.
Do you believe that the developers will be able to make good use of such a large map in the future?
I'm quite skeptical about this, but I'll be very happy if I'm wrong.
I think if the map was about a quarter of the size of the currently used map, there would still be plenty of space for unique content.

Because they are not done adding stuff to the game.

According to them they plan on finishing this game in 6-8 months so no, there is no way in hell they will be able to make good use of such a large map.

Don't get me wrong, I like the island, the way it looks and everything but it is far too big for no reason. And filling it up with countless POIs wouldn't fit the whole theme of the game either so it makes even less sense to make it as big as it is.

I would feel boring to travel around the map quite easily like in the forest. Well, zip lines are way easier in this game also, but at an early stage (no zip lines) going through the forest means you will get attacked easily. I was sprinting around (no stop) and a cannibal just happened to be behind a bush and hit me. I love this big map even if it will not be filles.

You can build a big square box anywhere you want, then another, and maybe one with windows OR maybe one with a bone chair or table in it, why not both? Mix it up a bit!

6-8 months is just unrealistic from what i have seen here. theyll need alot more time to get this game to the level of the first one.
can see the cave work alone takeing them 6 months alone. its way too barebones currently.

I like the map as is. I see the point of it being "empty", but if you have ever walked in the wilderness, that's how it is. It feels "right" to me. To me, you don't need something "interesting" or unique every 20 yards, the terrain itself is interesting enough. Plus the large map gives you a lot of options to build in lots of different locations for various reasons.

I'd just like to clarify that they rather stated they plan to remain in Early Access for 6-8 month, but a full release does not mean they are done adding stuff to it. It's just that Early Access is a state for games on Steam that might have major gameplay changes that you wouldn't be able to pass with a content update without some trouble.
It's what Deep Rock Galactic did, where now and in the future they can add Content, new weapons, new enemies, new maps, etc, but they are likely done with changing how the game plays for good, which is why they left Early Access.

I know they'll be adding stuff. But at the moment I feel like there's about half the content versus The Forest on a map 5 or 6 times bigger.
Tthat's not a good ratio, and I don't believe they'll be able to fix it in a reasonable amount of time.

It'a a survival game, exploration(even if a bit sparse for now) is pretty much a key element to it. With this map they have a -lot- to work with and I'm not unhappy with the current product, so I'm gonna keep looking forwards to new stuff.

The so called '5 second rule' used in most open world games today has kind of damaged the mindset of players in my opinion. We are so used to open world games having something to pull your interest every 5 seconds of movement in the game world that when we play a game that doesn't adhere to the rule it feels lacking.

However the island in SOTF is quite realistic, large swathes of just forest and nothing particularly interesting in it. I like it because it makes finding something interesting more time invested and so more rewarding, even if its just a cool view.

My guess is they plan to expand some of the caves, add more construction options and more items to be spawned and used in crafting. I hope they plan to work more on expanding the AI in the game and the factions of inhabitants. I doubt they are going to add much more in the way of points of interest, although I am sure they will add some

for my sake it could be 200% larger and i would have no problem with it.
what would be the point of a tiny map ?

also meaningfull content ?
meaningfull content could be just nature. There does not have to be something to loot or se every 20 sec of walking. This is not skyrim

I understand but like, Its not very fun to walk across the whole map just to grab one item then walk across it again to grab another, Being realistic is fun but you have to do it right
