*If you cannot place the small log piece, but you can place a long one, remember you can chop it once placed.
I tried placing a longer/full log, but it didn't work. It just won't create a snap point for the log placement. If I put a log in the "correctish" spot manually and put down a horizontal log it doesn't link up. I also tried using the lift and place method by putting down the sloped log first but it won't give me the lift context. I think its something about the ground in that area, but it isn't really all that uneven.
I moved away from that base now anyway. On my second base, which I build on the little island, I placed the entire floor plan first and didn't have any similar issues. Unfortunately I didn't plan out the stairs ahead of time.
Interesting! So you built a short rope bride down a level? Nice! I've built long rope bridges to different heights, so why not a shorter one. I'm going to give that a shot later. Thanks
Yep, that's my current solution. I'd prefer stairs, as it's just faster, but the rope works and takes up less space.
So I did it. Mine is 1 long and 1 down and I used short logs for stairs so its narrower. Worked perfectly. Awesome idea!
Yeah leaving the floor without plans on any spot may create a problem that is harder to notice until is too late...
I was forced to dissasembly the inner core of this building to place stairs

Anyways actually the ropes are a better solution, however will make more tedious to move logs to the upper lvls in case you make a high building.
You can build the stairs, then place walls down on the sides. The walls will clip through the stairs. Then place the second floor and remove any walls you don't want(except the top beam).
At minimum you need a 3 x 1 area of squares(bottom landing, the stairs, and top of the stairs). on the second floor you need a square and 2 open tiles(a beam will snag your head).
1. Place logs on a slope as normal.
2. Place half planks on the stairs as a step or a ramp, even 1 will do.
3. The lower ends of the sloped logs now lets you put a vertical log on them to match the height of the other end.
4. Place a log horizontally on the new vertical log to the top of stairs
5. Build walls and continue as you normally would.
It's much easier if the entire foundation is on struts so the sloped logs are all at the same angle, trying it on terrain can be tricky unless its perfectly flat.
I'm sure there are youtube vids that can demonstrate the method much easier.
