I run dedicated servers and Grounded has been a pain. Yes the have the cloud save but that does not give you the option to run your own everything.
Grounded is still looking into dedicated it but I will say cloud worlds is better than nothing.
That being said, I hope they do not do it as its a lazy approach to a co-op cloud workflow. Dedicated servers has worked since DOOM/Quake. most TheForrest server still up are the dedicated ones.
if the host decides to leave and there are still other players in the save, the game automatically selects one of the other players to be the host
Advantages in this system instead of the dedicated server
You don't need to have a pc running the server, or pay a service to have a dedicated server
No one will be without playing because the dedicated server has crashed
Disadvantages:
None
Remember, this game is not competitive, don't compare it to other PvP games.
Now I agree that Grounded's solution is clever and an easy solution for players but handing off hosting to another player, who might be 1000 miles away with only 8gig ram while 4 people play in the session, will cause inconsistencies and degraded performance for others.
Dedicated servers are always better to play on, period. I have a dedicated server with 98gig ram hosting multiple games and it perform way better than if I host a peer to peer session.
So +1 for dedi files from me. They had it for the Forest, so I am sure it will come eventually.
And the dedicated server dont make this guy have a better pc ou better connection
And thinking better if this player dont heve money to buy a better pc, did he have money to have a pc for a dedicated server (or pay a service for this)
i dont think this is hard to implement
I never said dedicated servers will provide a magical upgrade to players pc or network. I said it will provide a CONSISTENT experience to players throughout their play session.
All I am saying is jumping to someone else to host, could change the experience other players have in the session (sudden lag spikes), based on the hosted player's pc spec.
With dedicated server you all generally get the experience you started with throughout the session.
They definitely already have the dedicated server files, seeing they had it with the Forest, they probably just need to polish it a bit after the bug fixes we have in single player. I can not see how they will bring file sharing in at this point in time.
Microsoft can just order them since they are already under contract, to go work or ask for employees to volunteer to go help them. And they gonna make that money back so its not really a lose for them. This company don't have those kind of resources lol.
Again this is something you either a lot of money and still need people who all they do is database stuff and are familiar with creating a dedictated game server and maintianing it. So this something if you odn't have a parent company or them already on staff you got plan out way in advance. Like you can see when companies are looking for applications what they are doing by looking at who they got on staff or who they are hiring you see they want guys who know database stuff, and what not its likely gonna have MP with dedictated servers or server support.
The guy who does textures isn't gonna also be an expert in coding a dedicated server system lol.
I think someone needs to make their own post. Thanks.
