*no huge spoilers* Pistol given to Virginia keeps ending up back in my inventory

Wandering off was bad enough. Now it seems for whatever reason the pistol I give to her keeps ending up back in my inventory - and I have to keep on giving it back to her.

This started after the most recent update.

Anyone else?

It happens to me too. Though sometimes, I lose it from my inventory as well. leaving me having to swim back out to that raft again.

Yup. The only way I can make sure it stays in her inventory and not return back to mine is to give her the gun then immediately get another handgun. Once I have one in my inventory the game cannot 'give it back' and she keeps it.

Also do not give her an upgraded gun, you will lose the parts.

After a save and load will the game repopulate the pistol in the raft or only once it goes missing?

So far I haven’t really gone after the other weapons, and my weapon hasn’t gone missing just keeps transporting back and forth between my inventory and Virginia my home base is about a 15 minute / walk swim to the raft.

Sounds like my next step after I locate the closest second handgun

I set up shop relatively close to the crash site. Just near a river for drinking water.

I have this happen too. I found a "fix" of sorts for this problem and attachments bug.

Here it is from the other post:

I found out how you can "fix" the shotgun and pistol. So if you give Virginia weapons it will become bugged and any attachment you put on will disappear. If you pull up your back pack and use any items from there when she is in rendered distance, she will toss the guns back at you or at least the last weapon you gave her.

What you want to do, is remove all attachment on your weapon and then immediately save your game after you give her weapons and reload your save from the main menu, this will fix the bugs. You can from here go get a new pistol and shotgun and the attachments will work on those moving forward. This will also solve the back pack bug where she will toss back the last weapon you give her. If you lost your attachments already, they should respawn back where you found them originally or you can use console commands and re-add them that way.

As long as you don't remove the weapons you gave her from then on, it should be fine. You can still change her cloths and it will not effect the weapons. If you end up with dupes of pistol or shotguns for some reason, just keep pressing the combine button on them until they disappear from their box then, the last ones will be kept fine.

It reloads the pistol after a reload, even when Virginia still has it. She'll randomly lose it on occasion between travel when I'm going from one cave to the next or just across the map for a day.

she only takes it out when she needs to then she puts it away and when cannibals come she will shoot them if you still needed help

This happened to me, but when I picked up the base handgun again from the raft it came with all parts already attached.
