Saw something strange in the ocean
Alright, I’m aware there are sharks in the game

However

I was walking by the coastline the other day and saw two large dorsal fins going above and below the water, they looked too curved to be the sharks.

Even more so, the tail fin would come out of the water on occasion and it wasn’t vertical like a shark, it was horizontal like a whale.

Are there whales in the game? I would’ve gone in the water to get a look, but I was doing a lap around the entire island to get a sense of the size and hadn’t saved in 45 minutes, so I didn’t want to die.

Also, I was playing on my couch via gamepad, so I didn’t get a screenshot (I realize how bad this sounds, but I promise I’m not making this up lol).

Anyone else seen these things? I looked around the internet and only found that there are sharks in the game. Unless the models were bugging out and the tails got rotated a full 90 degrees, these things were not sharks.

Let me clarify, when I say two dorsal fins, I mean there were two of them, not a single creature with two dorsal fins, don’t want to confuse anyone.

There are whales.
But you can't interact with them.

I got on one and rode it around a while.

No not really. Just kidding.

Alright thank you both, I was very confused by this lol.

Thought I would’ve been able to find some information on them, I was worried there was some new variant of mutant prowling the oceans around the island 😂

I know Humpbacks have very small, stumpy dorsal fins. Orcas have a very tall, distinct dorsal fin, like, you couldn't mistake it for anything else. Minke, Fin and Blue whales also have stubby little dorsal fins.

Now, keep in mind where you are. We've got Meat-Slinkies roaming the island. We've got a Hexa-hottie roaming around. Who knows what manner of mutant sea-life might be swimming around out there too. After all, something's got to be eating all the cannibals and meat-slinkies that fall in, and I can't imagine eating mutants could be all that good for anyone. Just look at what GMO-foods are doing to people.

I've seen these as well. As far as I can tell it is just some kind of water animation that plays from time to time as I was unable to see any "creature" when I swam out to check if I could actually see something under the water. It does look like a fin of something other than a shark. Perhaps a Dolphin or Orca.

there is orcas or killer whales whatever you wanna call em in this game. but sadly they are just animations and these animations also spawn..... akwardly. they swim in water where they clearly would just strand normally.

its the same as the shark in the cave from the trailer : its a visual display to show the player there is an exit to the open ocean. the shark wont attack you or react to you even if you jump in front of it and then it just disappears aswell. purely immersion.

found a beach with Orcas. The first game had Sharks as well. I have not seen any shark carcasses yet though
