How in the world is this game using the Unity engine and yet looks so good?
You know, all this time, I actually thought the game was running off Unreal Engine 5, not Unity Engine. I was shocked to see it was actually on Unity.

I've never even heard of any other game looking this good on Unity. Is this what Unity is capable of? And why dont more game devs use it then?

Actually also the game "Rust" runs on Unity Engine and it's looking pretty nice. Unity can get really Impressive graphic results.

I do believe Green Hell is also a Unity game.. Which I thought for sure, for the longest time, was running unreal

Unity isnt as limited as you think. Ofc it wont ever look the way it could with the newest UE.

You named Rust and Green Hell. While both have already dated graphics, so let me name another: Escape from Tarkov is using Unity.

I think the question to ask is whether we are seeing actual footage from the game or enhanced video movie graphics often used for purposes of showcasing a game and making cut scenes. It appears that much of what we are seeing in the videos we will see in the game as cut scenes to explain how we ended up where we ended up, and at certain parts of the game as explanations as to what we have found but when it goes to live play the graphics may be more the usual Unity graphics based on the resolution and settings according to your graphics card/drivers and what sort of a system you have. Its one thing to show you video that they recorded on a very high end computer with the latest graphics hardware and running the best CPU with load of memory. Your results, on your computer, may differ. Also, what can be recorded in the game, can also be enhanced in movie editing software to make it look very high end cinematography, which is probably very much better than what the average gaming rig would provide. The still images, on closer look, may also be enhanced, although they are not a great as the videos. I suspect that there would be a noticeable difference if they posted a dev playing a live game, at least of you saw it live before it could take a pass through an editor. Its very possible with the very best graphics card and a very high end gaming rig you might get graphics that looked that good from the Unity Engine but I suspect that most of us will end up having to settle for the best graphics we usually get from a Unity game that has very good graphics developed for it, but if we want our videos of the game to look that good we will need to pass it through a bit of graphical enhancement when we edit it.

They prlly have really solid base engine to go off of From unity again unity is just a prefab to make Building alot snappy and quick instead of building up a custom engine from scratch that takes literal years to make perfect

software does not age, it either gets better or abandoned

The game is really beautiful, if unity used C++ I would be more interested in it. :er_sweat:

Unity is an awesome engine, and can make great games. Good looking, and big. Not everything have to be UE.

So I think it is a matter of ignorance/prejudice to be surprised. But hey, that is fair enough - no offence intended. Afterall, the tech behind a game should not matter much. It should never be a selling point either for or against a game.

Subnautica (and sequel) was made with unity, as well. Many more.

Unity and Unreal Engine are the most common game engines.
In my steam library I have around 118 Unreal Engine games and 85 Unity games.
Both engines are pretty good, though there are by far more Unreal Engine games i like than Unity games but that's rather bc of how good the coding skills of the devs are :p
And since I know "The Forest" very well I'm sure that this game will be nice as well.

You can also add some more to the list of nice Unity games.
-Valheim
-GTFO
-Raft
-Risk of Rain 2
-V Rising
-Praey for the Gods
-The Long Dark
-Lust for Darkness
-Lust from Beyond
-Hellpoint
-Cult of the Lamb
and more..

Where have you been to have not heard of Valheim? It was almost all that any streamer, gaming website or gaming magazine talked about in 2021

well now I am shocked too, because I did not even check the engine, I was 100% sure it would be unreal.:awkward:

Unity support DX12 since past november (much more time -much- marked as "experimental"). Vulkan also, a lot of years ago.
