nope, its very common. i also wouldnt hold my breath for dedicated servers. devs have a lot of stuff on their hands and i wouldnt expect it before they go full release. your friend could share his savegame with you but then you would play his character etc..
to be honest there isnt too much in this game to even justify dedicated servers. there isnt too much todo right now and there are way better games if you just want to build creativly together.
In really life you decide all this crap out before you ever get to EA launch and would included it from day one when it was just game design document so they know to hire some one and put it in the base code sigh..
This is a much more practical solution imo at least for the time being. Most likely a lot cheaper and less chance of bugs. Perfect for a smaller dev team like Endnight.
I say make this a thing. Get the rest of the features, bug fixes, and performance improvements worked out, and finally consider if dedicated servers are even necessary afterwards.
