The island is so big, it makes base building useless
Unless you are playing this game to literally just build a base and nothing else, there is no reason to build a base in this game. Traveling to the POIs and such across the island is so time consuming to the point that you will almost never go back to your "base". Instead, you throw up a tarp and stick to save and sleep once in awhile if you aren't near the many beds or tents scattered around.

agreed I built a base and turned off base damage just because but agreed there's to many places to sleep and you can make a shelter on the go so its really just a race to the finish and the story could have honestly been told better I had to look it up online to understand it and who everyone in the cut scenes were, its a great story told terribly with some good character crossover from the first game.

Even if you look up what the story is supposed to be it makes no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense. Honestly one of the worst attempts of story telling I've seen in game, which is sad because the first one with the twist was really grabbing. You can tell they tried the same thing, but they didn't let the story flow well enough. I don't know if it is because the island is so big that you can miss out on some pieces, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it bad.

The island isn't unique at all. It's literally just beach, forest, and mountain. There are no landmarks to help you with orientation like in The Forest. The Forest had the Yacht, multiple different looking cannibal villages, the sink hole, those big ass unique trees, the sunken ship, different ways to enter caves like climbing down ropes instead of squeezing into it, big plateaus with valleys, etc. Not to mention all the small little things you come across like the camera crew while running through the thicket. If you run for 5 minutes from one location to the next it all looks the same in Son's of the Forest but if you did that in The Forest you'd see so many unique things and terrain. The game is very disappointing imo.

I agree with you. My friends and I feel like we wasted our time playing the game after playing it. We only played the first game for ~20 hours, but it was worth it in the end. We played less of this game and feel scammed lol.

I've seen videos of people making ziplines systems that go across the map, so there are ways to get across quickly. People have even made zipline systems for transporting logs too.

I agree and disagree with this. The map is too spread out yeah but also going away from your base is on paper an incentive to not die, at least in The Forest. I think the execution here for SotF was poorly done.

I feel like you guys didn't see the early access part of the store page LOL

You missed the part where this game has been in development for many years and was originally gonna be fully released months ago and then just now released in Early Access to take your money.

The map is so big and empty there is no point of doing anything other than the story. (Was a full release up until 3 weeks and 1 day before the release date)

So they cheat to get infinite supplies in order to do so?

I wouldn't call this cheating. If the devs didn't want items to respawn/regen after reloading the game, they easily could have turned that off. There are other items that once you gather it, you never see it again (mostly weapons, but think keycards, etc) so they could easily do this with the zipline rope.

If you have to turn a game off and on again many times just to get supplies to setup a janky way to get around the map, then that isn't an intended design from the developers. The developers probably leave that on because people like playing the game as a sandbox. Because of that, supplies would literally run out fairly fast if there was no way to get them back by crafting (which there isn't). So, obviously making items respawn in the world is the easiest way to help with that. However, that intended feature isn't a good mechanic to abuse certain things and say it is OK to do so because the devs made it that way. It is just abusing a game mechanic.

I think the story can be improved and routing the objectives can be better added in with more flavor text and documents to give you hints where to go or what to find.

I wonder why you don't find audio clips or messages from the military or mercenary contacts though. It's kinda lame with how much forces were on the ground, that cannibals of all things wiped them out with zero survivors.

For instance when you find documents with hints, maybe add map markets to a area of interest that is 25 meter radius in size, so you check it out.

Hide the purple indicators for some locations until you get the objectives to the next so to speak, they require a shovel anyways.

They should add in video players again, but as dvd discs or something and put dvd players in all livable bunkers to use em on.
