I haven’t played around with the mechanics long enough to know for certain the max length, yet you can cover impressive distance.
I shoot a zipline into my starting point, then anchor the second end at an arbitrary location. Next I go to the place where I want the zipline to end, such as the top of the mountains, and shoot a second zipline at that destination location; as before, anchor the second zipline at an arbitrary location. Finally, I save the game and exit.
A quick edit of the most recent savegame file that's located in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\76561197970557145\SinglePlayer, where I put the savegame files in date order so I open the most recent save folder, will show a file inside named "SaveData.zip". Inside SaveData.zip you'll find a file entitled "ZipLineManagerSaveData.json". Use a text editor to open that file and find the two last zipline entries. Here's an example zipline file with two entries:
{"Version":"0.0.0","Data":{"ZipLineManager":"{\"Version\":\"0.0.0\",\"Ziplines\":[{\"_anchorAPosition\":{\"x\":-1226.90356,\"y\":119.882927,\"z\":-1.54327393},\"_anchorBPosition\":{\"x\":-977.924561,\"y\":272.286774,\"z\":-685.4439},\"_canBeDismantled\":true},{\"_anchorAPosition\":{\"x\":-712.682861,\"y\":113.957817,\"z\":1516.58728},\"_anchorBPosition\":{\"x\":-973.9291,\"y\":272.322174,\"z\":-685.3058},\"_canBeDismantled\":true}]}"}}
Copy the x-y-z coordinates for "_anchorAPosition" for the last zipline data set to the "_anchorBPosition" in the previous zipline data set. Save the file and put it back into the zip file, then exit.
Reload your game and you'll find that you now have a long zipline and the second zipline with the ending point; delete the second zipline and you're good-to-go.
Now you have a very long zipline when you reload the game.
