What's the point of having a base?
It only comes under attack, being a nomad with a tarp or a tree fort makes more sense, and has less negatives.

Messing around with the building system I guess. Having a place to store stuff too, I suppose. Maybe it's required to make Virginia or Kelvin feel safe.

Otherwise, not much point at the moment. Maybe in the future there will be time locked events or changes to things that makes hunkering down more important. I certainly hope so.

I have around 100 plant potters and counting in my base.

Having plant potters make virginia visit / stay around more often

Typically the more you disrupt the environment the more goons come after you. Expansive bases can be more trouble than they're worth, more so outside of coop. Heads on sticks can ward off individuals or small groups, but not prevent raids.

I agree, and I love base building....but when you have 6-8 other people in your server, there are no positives. I guess storing extra meds and rope, but that's it. I might as well do a peaceful offline mode and base build
I have see an Idea to Protect the Base by surrounding it with heavy Spikes, so the most Enemys say outside.
Some Still come in because of the Teleport Bug, but the Game had not even the first major Update, so maybe its fixed after that.
An good option for an first Base is one of the non boarded Caves, where Enemys cant follow you (K & V can't enter as well).
I havn't test if you can build there, but I guess the Caves will work and the Lab with the 3d Printer has even a Bed for you.

Building is the entire point of this game.

Didn't you play The Forest?

Bare bones survival, unbalanced/easy combat and very easy to cheese.

But the build system is where it's at.

If you want a game with seiges on your base or dangers that you can't just run and hide in a cave from, The Forest/SotF won't give you that and likely never will.

We begged and begged for those kind of things in The Forest early access and nothing ever came of it.

The safest base in the game is any cave

The base is just that, a base. It's a place where you can store extra supplies, fashion a cool-looking home, and stay safe from enemies.

...Well, it's supposed to keep you free from enemies but at the moment there's pretty much no way to prevent them from getting in.

i asked myself the same question...

we builded a base and we are constantly under attack, mutants glitch though walls and cabins which make it really useless...

beeing on tour without a base is much safer and more usefull at this point...

building a base is fun but it gives me no benefit... i dont have to warm up or hide from rain, or did i miss something?

More room for your mutant girlfriend to dance around-
can't do that in a small ass treefort
You can change the Settings of the Savegame with a Trick.
Create a new Game, on difficulty go on custom then set the enemys on low Levels and other Stuff you want to change (important, the Point Animals is the Amount of spawned Canibals, not the harmless Animals, its an Naming Error).
Then Play the game untilyou are in the Game after the Crash.
Build an Tent and Save the Game.
Go to this folder:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\STEAM-ID\SinglePlayer
Use a Zip Tool like 7-Zip to made a backup of the Save Folder as Backup.
Go in the Folder with the new Game you have created (look as the Thumbnails if you not know what are the right one).
Copy the File "GameSetupSaveData.json" from the new Save in your last normal Save of the Game you want to fix and overwrite the File.
The next time you start your Game it should have the Difficulty Settings from the new Save but the World, your Inventory and builds stay.
If something not work restore it from the Backup.

Thank you so much for this! I'm already a few hours into my 'normal' mode run & wanted to tweak the settings without starting from scratch!
