Too hard

As a solo , the game is insanely hard to play because numerous cannibals just rush at you from everywhere not letting u gather loot/learning the game because you keep getting jumped from them either if u make a base or if u explore. Dying a lot its fine but it gets to you after some time and pisses you off and the loot, pills , and ammo for the guns which barely do damage is very limited which means you dont have anything to defend yourself in the worst situations. Also , the damage , long range weapons either have limited to no ammo or they are insanely hard to hit with ( ex : slingshot ) and the melee weapons do nearly nothing against big groups of cannibals which can just land 2 hits on you and kill you.

Your strength level is really low, so firing bows and slings is gonna suck ass for the first 5 to 10 str levels. After its decent. Same with weapons I am a solo on day 17. Can 3 hit a big red with the modern axe.

I agree zBogdy06. I completed "The Forest" and remember it being challenging, but not impossible, which is what my day 9 is on "Sons". I've been approached/attacked by large groups of cannibals which are impossible to defeat. I've tried running away to try to face one at a time, I've tried just minding my own business, I've learned the meelee combat with my mouse etc. but nothing works. It's making the game very um, lame right now and takes all the fun out of it if there's NO way to even fight these guys off. Once I saw a coupla big red guys just attack my honey, and there was nothing I could even do about it. Just trying to get in-between them got me killed. Multiple times. I'm looking for a mod or a cheat to at least make it not so one-sided.

The slingshot is for small game hunting, rabbits & birds, and isn't for taking out cannibals.
Like he said, go rush the modern axe for a big dmg buff, makes a huge difference early game.
If you want ranged and are struggling with bow because str is low, make like 3 spears, and throw em, its easy to headshot because it gives you the throw arc (unlike the bow).

There are levels? Or Str levels, or whatever? How do you increase it? I am new to the game, did not play TF.

After a coupla more "days" in the game, and learning the bow and arrows, I can finally fight the cannibals. Also, I was finally able to build a defensive wall, and using water, they stay behind the wall and you can stab them with your spear as long as you retreat and are careful. I'm back to loving the game for now. The whole fun is learning and discovering. Glad that you can actually learn to defeat those little ♥♥♥♥♥! Now for exploring a cave...

Oh boy... Wait until you start exploring the caves. They're outright unfair. Here's just one example. I just surfaced from an underground water source into a crowd of 9 Fingers, and roughly 16 no eye mutants in a stupidly tiny space. When you surface you unequip your weapon... Needless to say I was instantly killed despite having armor on. I eventually had to download a mod for god mode because it was actually impossible to proceed after multiple attempts. There was no opportunity to pull out a weapon to defend myself. All caves are like this.

I succeeded in the huge cave that gives you the rope gun but only by using bombs...it took awhile.

as a forest player, I have to admit the sheer numbers of cannibals and the real tough ones ( a gold mask dude stands there , takes 15 arrows, then kills me?) that come.

if the waves were less frequent and a bit smaller, it would be managable, most of the time ill only survive if virginia sticks around with the gun, but lately she has been deciding to go elsewhere even though i'm at max rank with her lol.

I'm almost at day 50 and all I use are spears and logs. Spears oneshot most mutants with headshots and logs stop everything.

If you start seeing roaming packs, go find the camps they are coming from and wipe them out. Gives you a while of peace.

Just retreat and they follow you in the water and drown.

the cannibals are designed to kick your ass, you're supposed to try and avoid them if you can,

if you want a decent strat to help you out, build something, a home with walls, they will just try to destroy it if you got destroy buildings off, letting you get a headshot from behind or so

try to learn using the bow a lot, get quick headshots before they can move out the way

if you see a cannibal on a rock or something crouched, wait for them to jump at you and just strike them when they miss and land, you shouldnt try fighting em headon where they can just instantly strike afterwards and parry

the easiest ones to kill are the giant brutes and red guys, just spray em with arrows in the head till they die

mutants are really easy, just jab them with a spear, aim for the legs on the goofy finger one, harass the twin crawlers with spears, beat the muffled pale ones to death with something, and just wait for the babies to jump at you while ur blocking and oneshot them with an axe

as for the slinky worm, get bombs,

as for the spooky ones in the ending cave, try using a cross, or just buckshot.

by the way, slug ammo wont eat through creepy armor cannibals in one shot, but it'l destroy the armor

the fire axe can easily 3 shot a lot of cannibals if youre strong enough, you can even beat the finger mutant ones to death with it if ur quick enough while its knocked down

I agree zBogdy06, I'm finding this game very difficult to play. Let me start off by saying I'm a pretty decent gamer at the age of 61. The natives are outright terrible, I was fighting them off for an hour straight to no avail and finally just said screw it and turned it off. They just kept coming at my base no matter what with no breaks. It takes all the fun out of playing, if it weren't for the exploration and the beautiful scenery I probably would not continue trying to play it.
