Backpack is your 'quickbar' friends

For anyone like me that had not/hasn't figured out the 'quickbar'/hotbar is your backpack.

Open your inventory
Move backpack to the middle (r click)
Remove items by right clicking and then add your favorite items (only 2 side slots for bow/spear/ax) by right clicking them from your inventory table.
When playing you can hold 'i' to quickly select the items you've attached to the outside of the backpack.

I hope this helps some folks who may have, like me, been scrambling through manual inventory to fight off an invasion

the game pauses while in your inventory, you can even heal with the inventory open, what advantage is there to holding up a backpack, stuck in place and manually clicking and item from it while cannibals attack you, over opening your inventory and being completely safe to sit there for 30 minutes in your inventory while a cannibal doing a leaping strike is frozen in time?

oh my mistake, I don't have any friends. seems like in this case that appears to be a bonus.

It still does not come close to replacing the hotkey function. The entire idea of hotkeys is to make switching tools/weapons fast and easy, just pressing a button. The backpack still stops you in your tracks, prevents you from looking around and requires you to aim at the items you want to equip.

It's super inconvenient when you have to equip something fast. It also gets annoying real fast, doing the same process for such a simple thing over and over again.

i agree 1-0/re-bindables would be way smoother
