Story Explained?
I was confused on the ending of the story, I thought I was following it pretty well but the ending just confused the hell out of me. Does anyone know what the ending means? and who is the guy in the silver jacket from the beginning.

I am in the same boat with you. I completed the game in around 12 hours and have come to realize that none of the ending makes sense. I am not sure which ending you got, but I saw an alternate universe through the golden cube. How this alternate universe relates back to the original plot of the forest? Only God knows truth be told. Another thing is, why are we running through practically h*ll just to get to a gold cube. The ending in no way relates to the beginning in my opinion.

You find out fairly quickly that Mr. Puffton, the CEO of Puff Corp, is dead. You can find him and other socialites transformed into (now dead) mutants via a security feed. The 'guy' in the silver jacket was a woman. I think you folks may have missed a few things down in the various bunkers! I'll not spoil it if you want to go hunt down the details yourself.
Tip: Keep an eye out for the blob creatures and don't forget to visit the night club. ;)

I'm definitely going to have to replay the game, I thought I read most of the papers, I must've missed some. Thanks!

the cube artifact activates once every 8 cycles (unsure what that means) when it fires theres a dimensional shift and everyone not inside the cube turns into mutants. everyone inside the cube is safe.

As far as I understand it, and warning HEAVY SPOILERS:

1) Somebody at Sahara leaks info about artefacts to somebody at Puff Corp
2) Sahara and Puff Corp compete to buy the island, Puff wins
3) Some luxury bunkers are built for rich people
4) Artefact activation turns everyone not inside the cube into dimensional freak mutants
5) Months after contact is lost you're part of the second group of paramilitary guys sent in to find the Puffington family and get them out
6) Helicopter is shot down, silver suit guy pistol whips you unconscious
7) After jumping through hoops to get access to new places you meet some guy in green fatigues who is fighting a blob and some babies
8) Old Man With Shotgun arrives to save the day only to get shot by silver suit guy, you get knocked unconscious again and should see somebody about CTE if you survive
9) Jump through more hoops
10) Light demons on fire with the power of Jesus
11) Meet green fatigues guy at the end of a river of lava and enter the cube
12) Kelvin dives through the door at the last second despite being told to stay in my camp, silver suit guy is stuck outside
13) Artefact activates, teaser for new sci-fi game plays
14) Cube opens up and silver suit guy is now a stretched out blob monster and dead
15) Teleported to beach with green fatigues guy and Kelvin, Old Man With Shotgun has a helicopter waiting for your escape unless you want to stay on an island where nothing makes sense

Every eight cycles (years or months) the island undergoes a strange occurrences as the unknown alien device (The Cube) connects our dimension with another; swapping out the inhabitants of our world with inhabitants of another. The cave creatures, those of grey skin and no eyes, come from another world, or dimension, and they take the place of those who were outside the cube during the Eighth Cycle. It would appears as if everything on the island is almost ripped into multiple realities which allows these creatures access to our world before it is then all merged back into one. This might also explain why you can see two, or more, creatures emerging from one person.

The device not only swaps the inhabitants for another, but also seems to horribly mutate those it does not swap, supplying them with extra flesh, limbs, and more. As seen during the ending cutscene, multiple realities collide. This might also explain why Virginia, despite having been a student (And most likely didn't have any mutations prior to the Eighth Cycle), now has three arms and three legs. And while she might've been spared the fate of being swapped or horribly disfigured, she still underwent some mutations.

It is unknown if Puff Corp knew about the machine or if they were using it to generate power or study another dimension. Books which can be found in-game might suggest the ladder. Or it is entirely possible they didn't know at all and were punished for they greed by being ripped from this reality and replaced with horrible creatures from another world.

That's just what I've gathered from my 30hr long first playthrough.

Seems like solid reasoning but a cycle can't be eight years since we witness the cube activating and contact was only lost with the people there five months ago.

Probably more like 8 months. “Cycles” could refer to moon cycles.

That makes a lot more sense with the timeline. In fact I might have misheard the dialogue in the helicopter due to the distortion, quickly doing the math puts the 31 weeks since contact was lost at a bit over seven months.

From what I can understand. This island has materials, these minerals on the walls of the caves. So the company starts digging and making tons of money. Then they go too deep and uncover an artifact cube. They found out that they can travel through space and time instantly to a new planet. But it only activates every 8 cycles. So they only invite the richest and most powerful people to help them on this new planet. They send people to this planet. Thus why the bunkers because their clients had to wait for the cube in order to go to the new planet so the bunkers are like stand by mode. But while they are mining they open a cavern that is basically demons. These demons were able to break through the facilities and turn the people there into other demons. Thus you see mutants surrounding a diner table but they are dead in their seats.
I am assuming the city is where these rich elite people go and use this material found in the caves to power their flying cars and stuff. Or the planet has materials not found on earth.

I finished the game and filled with question. Some comment here are good and logical

I liked the ending, but I'm really confused about a few things.

Who is the silver suit guy?
Who were those riot suit guys with him?
Why did he shoot us down? Why is he trying to kill "get down son" guy?
Why did he not kill us when he had the chance?
Why were the people on the island after this golden cube?
What is the connection between the artifact's alien civilization and demons?

I really like that the ending was not predictable, but I wish more was explained.
