I get your point, from my understanding you could try and collect as many logs as possible and get Kelvin to help with the build, I tend to have him build one of the log cabins while I focus on the defensive wall. It's tricky though, but definitely a chore to some degree for those who prefer it more simple.

I believe the book said you can make doors in just "walls", not defensive walls unless I glanced over something (The defensive wall actually has an extra step that I don't think you can do right now with a sideways log on the wall itself). What I did was build my defensive wall to generally where I want the door to be, put down sideways wall to build that up, cut out the door, and then make sure the wall is closed up right next to it, which can be a little wonky because the "snap" feature for the door wall kinda messes with the snap of the defensive wall.
