How do I put down a stick?

Look, I'm dumb. I cannot figure out how to put down a stick. I have tried holding down "I". I have tried "G". I have tried giving in and using the stick to build- whether that be a fire or what I guess would be just punting it into the ground?? Nothing happens. I am still holding the stick.

The only thing that DOES work is picking up a large stone, and *while holding the stone*, pressing "I", and equipping something else. This is dumb. There is absolutely no way that the devs purposefully made it so that when you want to drop a stick, you need to hold another item altogether. Frankly, I do not even consider this method to be actually putting down the stick. It is simply a workaround to a bug.

Thoughts? If there is a different button I need to press then feel free to call me a dumbass, but it seems to me that this is a very odd bug.

Edit: I do think I was experiencing a bug. I made a new save and pressing "i" now works as intended most of the time.

It seems that pressing G just puts the stick back into your inventory, as with anything else that "belongs" in your inventory.

The only way to store sticks is to make a stick holder.

If you rapidly tap G you can throw it but yeah pressing G puts it away. Then you have to hold down i to Hotkey back to your AXE. Uncertain why it replaces your weapon when you do pick up something else? May be a bug for me but it for sure annoying when a Cannibal pops up to attack. :(

I think I was just having a bit of an odd bug? It pops up every so often again but for the most part holding down "i" does work as intended. When the bug occurs holding down "i" doesn't do anything at all. That was my first 20 minutes of the game- absolutely infuriating. Hopefully it's fixed in the next patch.
