Graphic settings & performance tips! Read here
Found this on reddit, posting it here to help you all <3 :

I've been tinkering with options and it seems like performance-wise it doesn't matter too much which settings I use. The framerate difference is too little for each individual option. Some of them don't even make sense.

What I've found to be the most effective is "Dynamic resolution" setting.

I have managed to get the game going at 50-60 fps on High to Ultra settings on my potato GTX 1060 PC. Here are my test results while looking at highly dense areas with baseline of everything set to highest.

Draw distance. Ultra -> Ultra low = +2fps

Ambient occlusion. Ultra -> Off = no difference

Fog quality. High -> Off = +1 fps

Antistropic textures. On -> Off = no difference

Shadow quality. Ultra -> Ultra low = +2fps

Clouds. High -> Low = +1fps

Grass. High -> Low = +1fps

Water. High -> Low = no difference

Parallax distance. High -> Low = no difference

Billboard quality. High -> Low = no difference

Texture resolution. Full -> Eighth = no difference

Antialiasing. TAA -> Off = no difference in any option

Dynamic resolution. Off -> TAAU = +11fps

TAUU -> FSR 1.0 = +2fps

Bloom. On -> Off = +1fps

Screen space reflection. On -> Off = +1fps

Motion blur. On -> Off = no difference

Micro shadowing. On -> Off = no difference

Contact shadows. On - Off = no difference

Chromatic aberration. On -> Off = no difference

Film grain. On -> Off = no difference

Combining all best settings into one gave me 65-70 fps, but the game looks ugly.

I recommend using TAAU upscaling, setting shadows to high, clouds to low, draw distance to high, grass medium, bloom off. The rest can be either Ultra or High no probs. Game will look decent and run well.

P.S.: 1080p resolution windowed borderless, vsync off

Thank you for sharing this and that guy from reddit, omw turning that dynamic resolution on :)

The reason why the graphical options barely make a difference is because the game needs better CPU optimization

True, here is another analysis with different results: https://guided.news/en/gaming/sons-of-the-forest-best-settings-pc-better-fps-micro-stutter/

It doesn t solve anything ...... the optimization is so bad that even if u go low on all setting u gain 3 fps or 4 .... this site is just ♥♥♥♥ riding the forest devs

What do you mean? Optimization is very good for an open world survival crafting game. I'm on RTX2080 in 1080p - I only have some minor issues with microstutters but I'll likely figure them out in a week since they may be related to framepacing, CPU bottlenecking or the game just using cores too willy-nilly.

It's compiling shaders in the background everytime you play the game.

my fps gets better after like 1 hour of play after i get a frame drop to 1.

For me, the game looks very good on low and on Ultra, but I have micro lags even though I have 90+ fps, I have an rtx3080ti and I don't see a problem in the graphics, but in the temperatures. The game runs on low and the processor and graphics are at 70 celsius. Even if I put it on ultra, still the same. I want a refund, too bad, the optimization is bad

Not sure i totally agree with these I turned down shadows and parallax, they gave me 10fps

please help, my laptop is gaming, so it's not that bad, but the only way to keep it from crashing is to set everything to low, but that annoys me because the graphics are bad, so please any type so that it's fast and at least has a little good graphics.
