Multiplayer not working at all
Hi
I have the following problem, I can't connect to any online session. I'm in the lobby for a while then it kicks me back to the main menu with no information or error code or reason. I have tried all ways like:
Reinstall, Steam Reset, Computer Reset, Router Reset, and verifying the integrity of the game files, there is also no way that the firewall is blocking my game because I checked it. I have the game installed on SSD nvme so it's not the fault of the slow drive, besides I have i7 9700k and RTX 3070 and all drivers on the computer installed to the latest version. After all these steps, I still can't join any online sessions because nothing happens when I'm in a lobby with other players. I can start a solo game and everything is fine, but trying to play online fails. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

The same thing is happening to me with my friend and we have tried a lot of things to get it working. We have set the lobby to only the amount needed, we have started a game by ourselves in multiplayer mode, and then loading that game in a lobby, making the lobby public and quickly starting it so nobody else joined. I will let you know when I have found a solution

Ok so activating telnet seemed to have worked. To do this go to your control panel, programs and features, turn windows feature on or off, and you should see telnet client and you wanna activate that.

So this only seemed to work one time so I am not sure if this is a actual fix but feel free to try it

Thanks for advice. Im done for today with this game but i will try it next time for sure.

I found the solution:
You have to go in this folder location on your PC:
\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\76561198019728029/ (if you can't find appdata, press Windows key + R and type %appdata%, then click appdata at the top)

Once you'll be in the file : 76561198019728029, you should have a file name Multiplayer and MultiplayerClient. Rename it to MultiplayerClient to Multiplayer. This will make them one file. Restart game and multiplayer should work.

im having the same problem, cant join any multiplayer sessions or friends , itll either just throw me out back to the lobby or itll put me in server but kick everyone else out, crashing their game, it wont let people join me, ive tried all the above , reset pc and all , check firewall / virus, internet etc, still having same issue, single player works fine. been trying to find a fix for it

I too have this problem. Got to the point of checking the logs, and it just shows it attempting to connect until giving up and booting back to menu.

This is what happened to me for a few days but this is what I did to fix it.
You have to go in this folder location on your PC:
\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\76561198019728029/ (if you can't find appdata, press Windows key + R and type appdata)
Once you're in the file: 76561198019728029, you should have a file named Multiplayer and MultiplayerClient. Rename the MultiplayerClient file to Multiplayer. This will make them one file. Restart your PC and multiplayer should work.
There is one problem with this though. You will lose all the progress you had on the server you were playing on. To fix this you need to put the wanted save file into the folder

I saw this from you on this and another post, it does not work the files don't exist as it has yet to successfully connect. Also that number will be different for each server.

I haven't had that issue but I've had issues staying connected to a lobby. The game will randomly disconnect me and a few other people. I'd suggest searching the subreddit for SotF. Reddit tends to have that kind of info for fixes.

Yea I think I misinterpreted the original comment. This seems like an entirely different issue than what I had to deal with.

Hey have you had any luck fixing this issue, been having this same exact problem since release. No guides online or anything, even emailed the devs twice and they havent said anything
derchris May 4, 2023 @ 12:21pm
I have this exact same issue since early access. This is frustrating, as I seem to be the only one in our gaming group who is not able to play multiplayer.
At this point I have given up, as no one seems to care.

Well, I actually was able to fix this, with the help from here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/108600/discussions/1/1743355067111048581/
