Dismantle key "C" not working on certain buildings.

I'm not able to dismantle fires or my log storage. Just pressing "C" like when you are taking apart a cabin does not work. The only way I'm able to remove these things is by turning building damage on in the settings and breaking them with my axe. Not a fan of this since I'm playing my first playthrough with no build damage on.

I have the same problem. Rejoining works for me but i didn`t find a better solution.

I never even get offered the "C" key to dismantle, it never appears. I've walked around the damn shelter (tarp with sticks) for ages and only see the red arrows and/or white arrows for adding sticks, or the "Sleep" and "Save" icons - extremely frustrating. Are we even allowed to dismantle Tarp shelters?

I don´t think you can dismantle a tarp with sticks. I was talking about the freebuilding stuff.

Im not sure about the holders, but for the tarp if you jump on it/attack it it will "break" and you can then use 'C' to reclaim the tarp

You can dismantle tarp, you just have to mouse over the very specific part of it (it's not indicated where, and you don't have the visible crosshair - "have fun"). I can't even say which part - i just wobblem mouse around while mashing "C" until the tent starts shaking...

Actually you can, if you are back far enough, hold down the "C" key facing the tarp.

I've noticed a lot buildings etc that you can deconstruct don't show the dismantle icon.

This is correct. Some items simply cannot be dismantled in this fashion. General Rule: If you're holding you Book in your Left Hand, the things there cannot be disassembled with "C".

In this case (any use of C to remove an element), it doesn't show you a C. You just face the element, and press C to see which thing shakes to know if you're doing the right one that you want before you commit to taking that element away.

Thanks for the replies, it seems that no "C" icon is offered, I found that I have to simply stand back a little and look at one of the sticks (where the sleep and save icons aren't) and just press the "C" key. Man I wasted so many bloody tarps because I had to leave them behind in caves! Oh well, we live and learn I guess :D.

To dismantle the tarp, you need to jump on it to flatten it and pick it up with holding C

Nothing I've read about issues dismantle solves the problem how why you still can't , I didn't start having problems until after the update dismantling stuff. Every time I put a piece of wood down I can't pick it back up gives me a red stop sign w/a human and a heart in the middle , funny thing is my friends whom play with me can dismantle my stuff. So explain to me how they can dismantle things , but I can't ? I can pick up certain items which I made but I can't dismantle things like buildings.

Actually the tall tower I was able to tie into it, and made additional door. In the process of building, I had a post down on the top I placed and went to remove it and took out the floorboard you crawl through the rope with. I went to replace it, but it was full floorboard and my friend couldn't climb up until I chopped out the opening.

What I've found is that most things won't offer a dismantle. Some items will outright tell you no when you hit C - red X. Some items don't show the red X but you can't pull that out until you unassemble other things on the build. It is possible that most of the prebuild plans are done in a manner where its more like a tavern puzzle and you have to find the right order of removing?

Regarding the log storage, I think we've been able to move these whole vs taking them apart. Chairs and other furniture work the same way, though I had a skull chandelier that left pieces in the old spot and only moved part of it to the new spot.
