Heres the steps i used to get the controller to be recognized... at least to my memory.
open steam standalone
go to library
right click sons of forest
click properties
enable steam overlay if not enabled
click controller
in the dropdown click enable steam input if not enabled
i think that should be it
im using a macbook pro 2019 16"
xbox one controller in bluetooth mode
only got it to be recognized once when plugged in then never again
<<<<<< symptoms im experiencing while in game >>>>>>
all the buttons except the A button are mapped wrong
i cross checked it while using shift+tab to open the steam overlay and see what steam recognizes my inputs as. it checks fine except doesnt see the middle xbox button(thats fine). when in game if i can maneuver my way to the options menu and controller. while the controller is working the input controls it says its going to use are all set right but when i go back to the game. it still acts wrong.
right stick is stuck down
only right on right stick seems like it works
up on left stick opens the bag
right bumper is the "attack/use" function
idk what the rest are cause its such a damn mess
hope someone can figure it out with this limited info or they just implement a fix
if anyone who works on the game or nvidia or steam sees this. add an option to dissable all m&k controls or force the use of either m&k or controller. feel like that would be the right fix. also.... nvidia.... add steam standalone to geforce
when you launch sons of the forest go to options and go to windowed view and move the window down or wherever to see steam. then go to library and do the stuff or finagle a bit.
you can also decrease the resolution to make the window smaller.
im trying to think of anything else i did.
oh side note. sometimes steam doesnt open as a window and it will either be minimized in the bottom left or not visible at all. its rare but to get it up just exit sons of forest and try again.
also this is a BIG ONE
if you find yourself stuck or need to start over.
you NEED to exit sons of forest by pressing cmd+g to open geforce window and at the bottom it says exit sons of forest.
if not and you just end the whole program, the next time you open it up, it might just put you back where you were stuck since it connected you to the same virtual machine/server/computer (whatever they are using to bring up their desktop)
Can you tell me how are you running the game on a MacBook Pro? Im trying with Parallels but no luck at all. I have an M1 MBP 2021
16gb ram
MacBook Pro 16" 2019
I have it fixed with my phone
link is broken or something
for anyone else having this problem, set the game to windowed mode while running it in geforce now, then in the geforce now steam library go to properties for sons of the forest and under controller set it to "enable steam input"
