is there a way to set a icon on the gps to show your base?

There is some kind of GPS Tracker you can find and I guess that is it's purpose but I haven't figured out how exactly it works quite yet.

How to find it:
Out in front of the coast there is a life raft (near the triangle shaped bay), near the purple "!" marker in the water. It can be found in there

To use it you can equip it and then use RMB to cycle through different icons. But I don't know how to save the icon so it remains on the map.

I thought u could put the locators somehow but nope, maybe not yet in the game

GPS locator are for Characters Aka Virginia, I used a prebuild building "small cabin, hunter, ect ect" to get an Icon of a House on the map.

Was wondering this too. Seems like it'll be way too quick if you know the exact location.

I believe you can actually use the locator to mark places on the map using a stick. Place the stick in ground and try placing the locator on it with the desired marker.

Yup. Splasshh_ is correct: place a stick in the ground like you're going to build a standing torch and then instead of a rag, you can attach a GPS beacon to it.

Does anyone know if its a bug where with the map icons it defaults back to the radio icon? I wanna place home icons for certain spots and so forth but i think this is a minor bug so far

Put a gps tracker on top of a stick stuck in the ground.

I'm also experiencing this bug. I haven't found a workaround yet, but if/when I do I'll update you
