lmfao all the little whiny babies complaining that their 150+ fps is bad or that the game doesnt run at 100+fps on ultra on 4k monitors
the game has categorically low fps issues when looking at dismembered corpse or while cutting a tree in the snow. That's undeniable problems that drag down the fps for seemingly no reasons at no matter your graphical settings. You could have everything low and those moments will still lag the fps

When I first start playing the game, I'm at an easy 85-96fps (every time I start a new game it's the same) but once I start building a base, and adding new elements to the environment, my FPS starts to drop A LOT, and late game it's down as low as 25-40fps, regardless of in-game display and graphic settings.

My System:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x 8-core
32 GB DDR4 RAM
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 10GB
1440p 144hz gaming monitor
Asus x570 MB
Running from a secondary NVMe drive, exclusively used for games.

Closed all unnecessary programs running in the background.

Tuned system Graphic settings in the following places:

Windows 11 Graphic and Display settings.
Nvidia Control Panel (Global and program specific) tuned to maximize performance.
System priority set to maximum.
Bios (Asus Optimal profile, D.O.C.P. RAM profile, and Resizable Bar is enabled)
Nvidia Profile Inspector, to ensure SOTF utilizes resizable bar.
GPU driver up to date (v531.61 as of today).

Mild OC using MSI Afterburner:
Core +100
Mem Clock +1000

Finally, my preferred in-game settings to run at maximum performance, and still have the game look good:

Display:
Exclusive Fullscreen 1440p
VSync Disabled
Max FPS at MAX
(Although, playing at 1080p windowed makes ZERO difference)

Graphics:
Draw Distance - Med
Ambient Occ - Med
Fog - Low
Anisotropic Textures - On
Shadow Quality - Med
Clouds - Low
Grass - Med
Water - High
Parallax Dist - Med
Billboard - Med
Texture Resolution - Full

Antialiasing - Off
Dynamic Resolution - DLSS Quality (makes little difference in fps which one I choose so I go for looks here)
Bloom - On
SSR - On
Motion Blur Off (looks better on in this game, but ♥♥♥♥ Motion Blur)
Micro Shadowing - On
Contact Shadows - On
Chromatic Garbage - Off

Film grain - Off
Colour Grade - Default

FOV - 75 (going up to 95 is what I prefer, but the game runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥)

**Needless to say, the game has serious performance issues that, hopefully, will improve with future updates (fingers crossed).
My next step is to go through every driver and update everything I can (Chipset, Bios, etc).
Update: Didn't help...
very good and detailed posts.

I try to achieve, and sometimes do, those fps, with a measly 3060ti. Sometimes it runs at 80-100 fps (with some settings like antialiasing on, and still at 1440p) and sometimes it drops to 50-60ish.

So if you struggle with your gpu (I also have no performance change going down to 1080 or dlss modes) I can see why I do with mine XD

Im kinda good at tweaking and did all the possible, and the game looks playable, but optimized, no, not in the slightest.

Grounded I can play on epic 1440p with awesome performance and quality of graphics.

Icarus on the other side has much bigger performance issues than the forest and cant almost be played. Smallaland, to say another survival, is kinda optimized but graphics look more dated.

But sons of the forest? Looks really good, but the optimization is lacking plus there has been almost no improvement since release.

I will just leave this here.

What is Early Access?
Get immediate access to games that are being developed with the community's involvement. These are games that evolve as you play them, as you give feedback, and as the developers update and add content.

We like to think of games and game development as services that grow and evolve with the involvement of customers and the community. There have been a number of prominent titles that have embraced this model of development recently and found a lot of value in the process. We like to support and encourage developers who want to ship early, involve customers, and build lasting relationships that help everyone make better games.

This is the way games should be made.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
Check out the listing of Early Access titles currently on Steam, and look for something that strikes your interest. Then buy the game or, if its free, just start playing. And get involved; give feedback, participate in discussions, post screenshots, write guides.

Developers have varying approaches, so it's a good idea to look at a store page before you jump into any game. You'll notice that announcements from developers show up on their store pages now, so you can get a snapshot of recent update or news directly from the source.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR?
First of all, look for games that are interesting, exciting, and that you want to play. Then, there are a couple things you should consider before making your purchase:

What is the game like to play right now?
When you buy an Early Access game, you should consider what the game is like to play right now. Look at the screenshots and videos to see what the game looks like in its current state. There are a lot of ways a game can go as it develops over time, so if you aren't excited to play the game in its current state, then hold off and wait until the next update--it shouldn't be far off.

How often is this game getting updated?
Take a look at the recent update announcements from the developer (shown on the store page for that game) to get a sense of how active the developer is. Does it look like that game is getting updated a lot? Are they valuable and interesting updates?

Pricing of individual games may change over time
Some developers will start by offering a discount for buying early while others will charge a premium, depending on their goals and the level of commitment and feedback they desire from Early Access customers.

IS THIS THE SAME AS PRE-PURCHASING A GAME?
No. Early Access is a full purchase of a playable game. By purchasing, you gain immediate access to download and play the game in its current form and as it evolves. You keep access to the game, even if the game later moves from Early Access into fully released.

WHEN WILL THESE GAMES RELEASE?
Its up to the developer to determine when they are ready to 'release'. Some developers have a concrete deadline in mind, while others will get a better sense as the development of the game progresses. You should be aware that some teams will be unable to 'finish' their game. So you should only buy an Early Access game if you are excited about playing it in its current state.

HOW DO I GET MY GAME LISTED IN EARLY ACCESS?
We're starting out with a handful of games and will be expanding it over time. If your game has already been Greenlit or you know your next game will be on Steam, then get in touch with your Valve release team and let us know of your plans and interest.

WHAT THE DEVELOPERS HAVE TO SAY:
Why Early Access?
“We set out to make the ultimate survival horror simulator, and feel it is now at a stage where it needs player feedback and involvement to help push this even further.

Our experience with releasing our first game ‘The Forest’ in Early Access was extremely positive. We got a lot of really good feedback and suggestions and were able to shape and improve the game drastically, rather than if we kept development internal. Having players involved at this stage will make this game even better.”
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We are hoping to be in early access for around 6-8 months, but this could change. We will leave Early Access when we are certain this is the best version of the game possible.”
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“In addition to bug fixes and improvements on balance and core gameplay, we plan to add more items, more things you can 3d print, more to build and discover, as well as adding additional game mechanics and lore.”
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“The game is playable in both single-player and multiplayer with up to 8 players. There are caves to explore, a story to uncover, a brand-new building system, crafting system, a new arsenal of weapons, dynamic weather and seasons, terrifying enemies and lots more.”
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“We don't plan on changing the price.”
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“Similar to our Early Access release of ‘The Forest’, we will be taking feedback and suggestions from both the community here on Steam and across social media.”

Did you actually read it? Specifically this part: "it is now at a stage where it needs player feedback." i.e. threads like these.

my 4080 has bad fps, getting low 120s please optimize...

Considering your 253 games listed in your profile, 120 FPS is quite good unless you are going to play some intese and fast PVP ;)

Nope, definitely the game need a better optimization, not everyone have the same components as you
Nah some people have a single decent part in their PC and expect it to be OP. If your CPU is lacking the game will def suffer.
This or they put it in some old MOBO from like 2012 from a walmart quality PC lol. My cousin use to do that get bigest bades tupgrades then one time I got his hand me downs when money was tight tis like "dude this ram uses over the max power, it automatically downgrades all slots to 1 channel it tells you in manaul its limits you mobo is budget and rest of this is high end gaming. I took one ram stick boom ran better then when he had it lol. Same deal he had a fancy GPU but the PCI express slot was old, like 2 generations off, so it ran the video card at like 60% capicity, same with PSU it was too week for what he put in it.

But he was throwing a fit blaming the manfuctures for that build not working its like no dude you built it like ♥♥♥♥. And I still see this "can you help me with my pc? I put new stuff in seems worse!" Go to coworkers house "uh you PSU is not strong enough for this GPU, also how old is this mother board? "What I was told at bestbuy I just needed this fancy GPU and I could play anything!"

I notice a massive drop in frames when hosting a multiplayer game. Normally get 70-90 fps in single player on high with dlss quality. can dip as low as 45 when hosting. Setting the game to Borderless Windowed and even turning dlss off can help keep it closer to 60 most of the time. The game is heavily CPU bound and isnt serving your GPU enough frames. Which is why raising the quality or turning off image scaling helps.
