How do I build a fire?

I don't get it, some buildings can be created just like in the original forest by clicking on the icon and placing the blueprint down but now for some reason fires are different? it's just showing me steps to build it but there's nothing to click on.

You have to equip the stick and break it. Hella stupid, but whatever

The new system is a DIY approach, but you can switch to the old system with a button press while you have your survival (build) guide up.

from what I understand they kept the old building style along with the new one, hold x when you have the building guide book out to swap between the two.

from what I can tell, it seems like those two menus have separate buildables, fires aren't in the alternate menu.

you should pick up the stick in your backpack, break it on your knee and put it on the ground to make a fire.

What ive been not able to build is the basic shelter with a plastic silver mantle like in the trailer.

Maybe you only find one laying in the beach?

I have tons of sticks and it won't allow me to snap any of them in half. He just puts them into the ground. No matter what I do I can't get it to break them in half

I try exactly as he does it in this video, but for me it won't break the sticks over my characters leg. he just puts them into the ground. I don't remember it being this hard to snap sticks in half in the first game, very annoying.

I just clicked, and that ended up working. If doing that didn't work for you then it's probably a bug, this entire game has game-breaking bugs out the ass.

It just automatically stakes the wooden stick into the ground. He won't break it over his leg.

I figured it out. When you kneel down and have the stick in your hand sideways look around until you see some dashes on the ground. Then hit left click and you should break them.

Kneeling down didn't do anything for me, just did the same thing as before. Put the stick into the ground and not breaking them.

Finally worked, I had to press the right mouse button a bunch of times before the left one to get it to work. Very strange, thanks for the help everyone.
