Agree. I'm not a bowhunter, but we had archery in school and we had a re-curve bow at my house we shot in the backyard. The arrow was the sight used for aiming - you got your left right sorted and there was some skill on how far back to pull or up down aiming to arch. If the game didn't have the arch on a bow, that makes some sense (real life doesn't show you an arch either, its learned), but the current aiming is wonky. The first game I think used your offhand to help you line up your spear shots similarly- if I'm remembering correctly.
Regarding some other items having trajectory, I believe there's an option to toggle that off in the gameplay section.
The only two guns that ADS correctly are the revolver and unmodified pistol.
The moment you attach the rail to the pistol it occludes the iron sights.
The shotgun is not held correctly during ADS and he holds it at an awkward upward angle which does not help in any way.
There would be 0 need for a crosshair on the screen if ADS worked right for the effected guns.
This works for Bow - but slingshot has a different center point. Game issue.
I like to have a cross hair for building its hard to line up targeting thing when placing items in free build or aim at right sections when building with axe.
when you have things close to other objects and u need swing and just hit certain sections with axe most of time it ends up just hitting everything around it and dosnt actually do the building implementation its supposed to do. and its always due to ether being to far to close or not lining up the target center just right with axe swing for example.
I use the crosshair provided in the settings of my LG Oled. and 'offset' based on that dot. as not every weapon centers on the screen center.
But as not everyone has a monitor with such features; i read that this is free: http://gh.lacymorrow.com/crossover/#usage
that's gh D0Tlacymorrow D0Tcom in case steam hates links.
I've not used it. But maybe it'll work.
Secondly, if we are getting down to realistic primative archery, I've done that, used to be fairly good at it til joint trouble prevented me from even using a 40 pound pull. Unless a person is doing the japanese zen archery he/she/they usually have the bow either angled 90° from the body with left or right arm straight and other arm drawing the bow. You then aim with the arrow feathers near your face and are almost looking down the length of the arrow even though it's on the far side of the bow. In this game the bow is off set to the left side of the screen with the arrow on the near side so the stance and possition of said projectile is wrong for a long or a short bow, compound or simple.
For those who need to move while shooting there is a method where the bow is held horizontal and the arrow laid across the top, with this method and a short or compound bow the draw length is about half the distance of a long bow draw but at close range is moderately accurate as the torso and head line up with the flight path of the arrow were a person to hold it accutely.
with regard to the targets and practice, or having the game be 'easy' ... this isn't dark souls, and not every game needs to be 'hard core mega death 10,000 lives binding of isiac super meat boy 10 star wanted level grand master pro chess level' difficult. I play games like this, minecraft, conan, atlas, empyrion to live in the world and have fun. Having a feature that some people may want to use that makes the game more enjoyable does not mean you have to use it.
I play with consol command as an option, I play with custom settings for my difficulty altering the game to fit my play style and what I find fun. I like to be inclusive to my friends who have some difficulties in games by spawning them some extra armor or giving them a few extra healing items so we can all have fun together. I like the idea of a survival horror game that can be inclusive to more people, while still remaining hard core for those who really like a 'if i get looked at i die' challenge. One person in my friends group is like that. I enjoy watching them do no hit challenges on dark souls, or cranking hellpoint to insane difficulty, but that's them, and you; just like them; have every right to play your game how hard or soft you want to. I, however, would enjoy a quality of life item as a dot or crosshair that can be turned on or off at times.
Also - if some one really wanted to strip this down to foundation level basic: The spear gives you a rough targeting arc, the stones do as well. If no cross hairs at all because it's 'too easy' then do you turn / avoid those little helping aids as well?
Lastly: If I were to be honest, I wouldn't even use it much in combat, I want it more for building so I know where the game thinks I'm looking compared to where I think I'm looking.
