Do you need to play ''The Forest'' first to play this>?

Title, so I have never played its predecessor however the reason why is because I dont get how the MP works mostly. Are you all on server with randoms or are they dedicated friends in your friends list. Im not that social when it comes to gaming but do like the feel of being in a world where others are around getting on with it.

No you dont need to play the other game. The story is only a small part of it. The main focus is the survival aspect.

You'll be able to play single player by default, with randoms online or with your friends on a private server

The story was minimal in the other one. Heck I don't think I finished it as I spent more time building a survival base of giant proportions and being drug around by mutants when I got a bit cocky.

This is a good 11 minute video telling the story and backstory of the first game and then shows the ending cutscene. Spoilers obviously. If you don't really intend of playing the first game I recommend watching it.

I would recommend playing the first game. Not that you'd need to, but simply because it adds to the experience. The story itself isn't very grand, but the experience may be. If you've got the time, squeeze it in. It's fun.
