As mentioned above, how a game handles lighting, textures, and the graphics in general is where 95% of a games size comes from.
I did a stint in college for game design when I was younger, and I was shocked how demanding a few lights and shadows could be using the unreal engine. Which is why most games use fake shadows, light rays, and reflections.
