VTube Studio

VTube Studio

VTube Studio using a lot of GPU when playing games
Not just Vtube Studio but OBS is also spiking even when i play games like Phasmophobia.

So last month I upgraded from my old 1070 GPU (i7-8700(?), 32gb 2666mhz RAM) laptop to a new 4070, i9-14900, 32 gb 5600mhz RAM) one. And I am confused about what is going on here. Because this laptop should not have issues running a game like Phasmophobia. But when I quit the games (it doesn’t spike for all games, like Minecraft is fine), both go down, but vtube studio can easily go down from 30-50% GPU to less than 10% (even less than 5%).

My OBS and Vtube Studio have their GPU % spike so much to the point that it causes my OBS to start lagging and my streams have even crashed several times. I have no idea what is going on. This never happened on my old laptop.

And for those trying to comment things like “why are you even using a laptop”, I need it to be portable. So I have my reasons that i am
Using a laptop.

Please take a look at this page:

We've collected all causes of lag and potential solutions over the last few years on that page. Usually, one of them works.

Yea 1920x1080. Definitely not more. But i did this on my previous laptop as well.

I am using a higher bitrate than before of course, but then again, a laptop that is 8 years newer should be fine with that. I have tried a few other things like running vtube studio without steam. Which I think has helped during my most recent stream, but then all of a sudden windows desktop manager started acting up, and would use 30-40% gpu for extended periods of time.

So after that stream I allowed my laptop to just use both GPU’s again, but force vtube studio, games and OBS to always use the Nvidia GPU. And WDM + some other background applications will use the intel GPU. (Not sure if it will end up causing issues, my previous laptop wasn’t “dual gpu” for as far as i know. But we’ll have to see).

The final thing I want to also try next stream though is just turn off the preview in OBS once i am in a game and i know everything is in place (my model, the game is showing etc). And maybe just minimize all other program windows too (vtube studio, t.i.t.s etc)

sorry i wasn’t able to stream the past 5 days and missed the reply too due to sickness so im not sure yet how it will go now with the final 2 adjustments. I just hope these things will make enough of a difference.
