The virtual webcam is not currently supported on macOS. I hope to bring that feature to macOS in the future, but the plugins required for that don't offer macOS support right now.

Any updates on this for macOS? I'd love to use the Virtual Cam instead of window capture.

Also, on Windows it looks like you're able to send the already-chroma-keyed data over to Streamlab/OBS, but on macOS, we have to chroma-key inside Streamlab/OBS (which doesn't provide good results if the character includes those colours. Perhaps this is part of the Virtual Cam method? I'd love this feature as well on macOS!

Sorry, no update on this. There's currently no easily available virtual webcam library for macOS, as far as I can tell.

You could use NDI on macOS though for transparent streaming (no chroma key needed). That should work fine:

Thank you for the update and the link explaining how to setup NDI — it worked for me and solved the issue I was having with chroma-key (since it sends the transparent data)!

I ended up following this tutorial on YouTube (NDI v4... I couldn't get v5 working), but here's the rundown from the YouTube video for anyone else:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0ndh4fSHAw

Links:
- 4.5 Runtime: https://ndi.palakis.fr/runtime/ndi-runtime-4.5.1-macOS.pkg
- NDI Plugin 4.10.1: https://github.com/DDRBoxman/obs-ndi/releases/tag/4.10.1
- NDI Tools: https://www.ndi.tv/tools/

1. Install OBS 29.0.2 or later for Apple Silicon (arm64)
2. Install the OBS NDI 4.5 Runtime
3. Install the obs-ndi-4.10.1-macos-arm64.pkg
4. Open OBS to test - If you get an error message saying NDI Runtime Not Found:
5. Quit OBS
6. Install the NDI Tools
7. Reboot your Mac
8. Go to where your OBS app is installed, in my case in the Applications folder
9. Locate the NewTek NDI Video Monitor app
10. Right click on it’s icon and choose Show Package Contents
- Go To /Applications/NewTek NDI Video Monitor.app/Contents/Frameworks
11. Copy the file libndi.4.dylib
12. Go To `/usr/local/lib`
13. Rename the file there to libndi.4.dylib.OLD just in case
14. Paste the file libndi.4.dylib
15. Restart your computer
16. You should see the NDI source now in OBS/Streamlabs

Confirmed working on my setup:
Mac Mini: M1, 2020 (16GB RAM)
macOS: Ventura (13.3.1)
Streamlabs Desktop (1.12.3) - NDI v4 (i.e. "NDI v5" left unchecked)
VTube Studio (1.24.12)
