It also doesn't alter the gameplay, the options which have a margianal effect are entirely supplementary. The 227 patch itself is sortof essential, as Epic left some game breaking bugs in the game and never bothered to patch them, but the patch allows things to work harmoniously.

In order to install the Unreal Gold/Unreal anthology version, simply select the '227i patch for Unreal gold", it referrs to the Steam version aswel. I have both the original CD and the steam version, and 227 works on both versions.
If errors come up then you downloaded the wrong file, there's something wrong with your system or you didn't point the patch installer to the folder where you have Unreal Gold installed.
I cannot "point" the installer to any local files that it understands. How does one "point" this installer?
