Unreal Gold

Unreal Gold

MAJOR BUGS AND PROBLEMS WITH UNREAL GOLD! [FIXED]
FIXED IT! Alright, if you're having the same issue I'm having (read below) just do this:
Set the video driver to Direct3D. It'll lag at first, but go into Preferences, Video, and set Color to 32 bit. If you tried adjusting the preferences in 3dfx glide, the changes may have been automatically undone. Don't worry, it doesn't seem to do that with the Color option in Direct3D. Don't know about the other video options, I haven't tried messing around with those in Direct3D yet. Whatever, just do this if you want a smooth, fullscreen experience.
I currently have the video driver for Unreal Gold set to 3dfx glide and there's 2 MAJOR problems:
1. It REFUSES to be put into fullscreen mode.
2. Whenever I set certain video options, they reset once I exit out of the little video options window. Unless there's a window that pops up asking if I'm sure I want to apply a change, the changes I make become unchanged RIGHT when I exit the video options window!
Some of you may suggest I use a different video driver, but the rest are even WORSE!
Direct3D supports fullscreen, but I get like 2 frames per second in that mode unless I have my nose pressed against a wall.
Don't even get me started on the Software Renderer video mode or whatever it's called! The game won't even START if I use that! I had to delete the game and reinstall it in order to get it working again after I tried that video mode!

Also, did you install the Unreal 227i patch found at www.oldunreal.com ? It updates the game fixing a vast catalogue of bugs, adds content creation features, adds new supplementary features and allows Unreal to run properly on modern machines.

It also doesn't alter the gameplay, the options which have a margianal effect are entirely supplementary. The 227 patch itself is sortof essential, as Epic left some game breaking bugs in the game and never bothered to patch them, but the patch allows things to work harmoniously.

Thanks, but I was able to fix the issue and I mostly prefer playing games in their original form.
Your reply is very much appreciated though! :)
All 227i does is fix those bugs lol. It is still the original form. Glad you got it working though :)

I will say though that when I'm strafing, sometimes the game will throw me WAY to the left or WAY to the right depending on which direction I'm strafing in. This is espescially difficult during the Nali Water God part that I'm up to which is by far the worst level in the game so far. I'm sorry, but I don't like it. Visually uninteresting, confusing, and it's filled with giant misquitos. I like the Unreal engine, but it doesn't have the best movement. I think that honor goes to the Quake engines.

the dodge is probably the reason you get thrown while strafing. thanks for the 32bit tip. got it running without having to install a patch. wonder if ut goty will work the same way in d3d9 (been using opengl for ut goty.

I've seen these posts about the 227i patch but if I don't have the old CD it's useless. Steam apparently does not have the patched version for SALE to us. Since steam doesn't have the original executable on my system the patch is not a option.

The 227i patch is acquired seperately from www.oldunreal.com under the downloads section.

In order to install the Unreal Gold/Unreal anthology version, simply select the '227i patch for Unreal gold", it referrs to the Steam version aswel. I have both the original CD and the steam version, and 227 works on both versions.

Access is denied when I install the update ... Says access denied or bad sector wtf

The game should come with the latest community fixes and patch pre-installed.

Hey guys, how do I install the Fusion Map Pack [www.fileplanet.com]?

Got the game of Steam so I don't have the CD, you can see where this going can't you. So how do I install any of the patches?

Normal procedure is install Unreal Gold from Steam, then download the appropriate 227i patch and install it. Run the game, that's it.

If errors come up then you downloaded the wrong file, there's something wrong with your system or you didn't point the patch installer to the folder where you have Unreal Gold installed.

NICE CATCH! I was getting 20fps (and was like, I remember getting a 3dFX for this problem!), now it's averaging 760ish FPS - roflmao - Alienware17r4 GTX1070

I cannot "point" the installer to any local files that it understands. How does one "point" this installer?
