Patch 227i Graphics hardware question
Howdy! I've got the 227i patch installed and working on my copy of Unreal Gold, but I ran into a small problem with it. I have a Windows 10 laptop with two graphics cards (there's a term for that, I can't remember what it is), and the game seems to be running off my Intel HD 630 instead of my Nvidia gtx 1050, according to the launcher. Since the game is quite old it actually still runs pretty good, but I'd rather have an optimal experience using the more powerful hardware. Is there a way to force the game to launch using my Nvidia card?

Not really sure, but I think there is an option in the Nvidia Control Panel, where you can set which programs is using the graphics card. Have never used it though, so I don't know for sure.

Basically, a proper GPU renderer is being worked on alongside 227j. The GPU renderer, called XOpenGL, can use hardware per pixel lighting, and also supports shaders like normalmapping should they be loaded in game through a mod somehow.

The problem with the standard renderers are that they run from the CPU rather than the GPU (infact they run very little from the GPU compared to the CPU).

XOpenGL is available in experimental form in one of the subforums of www.oldunreal.com , though is much more outdated than the version currently available to betatesters.

(This is the current state of normalmap implementation that's available for betatesters, but I think it still needs some work).

Yep, using the Nvidia control panel to change the rendering device to my gtx and using the D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice setting makes the game run nice and smooth now. IceLizard, what you mentioned sounds interesting! I'll try to keep tabs on any new developments with that renderer.
