Tank Versus Tank Tactics?

I load AP rounds to fight other tanks, but it seems quite consistently that I have to hit the other tank 3-10 times to destroy it, but the AI tanks can almost always take out my tank with 2-3 rounds. I've even tried getting behind the other tank where armor should be lighter. Similar results. Even operating a Tiger tank against lighter tanks gives the same results.
Am I missing something, or is this the desired game play?

Where you hit and the angle of the armor is very important! If you know when and where to shoot then you will start to kill tanks in one hit! Places like the turret ring or the long flat side of a tank are excellent targets! Hit a spot where you know there will be crew or an important components like the gun or engine.
