Is anyone else starting to think EasyRed 2 is slowly starting to get boring?
It's not that some battles won't feel intense; in my opinion, the artillery splash just has a new effect. I expected it to be bigger, but I was wrong. The only truly intense artillery fire comes from Katyusha rockets or rocket artillery. Normal artillery splashes are so small that, in real life, they would be much larger and more devastating. As a result, they feel underwhelming.

Additionally, the AI can negatively impact gameplay; for example, snipers never hide in buildings. In reality, a sniper would shoot from a building and then move to another spot for cover. At least, I've never seen a sniper operate that way. There are still some issues; I know not everything has to do with realism, but most people agree that the high-explosive (HE) splash should be bigger.

I've reached a point where I don't play ER2 as much as I used to. I now only play it for around 20 to 30 minutes at a time, while I used to play for over 1 or 2 hours. It might just be a change in my taste for gameplay.

Well, we try to keep the gameplay as refreshing as possible, it's fine if the game got a bit repetitive for now, but we keep working constantly on the game and we keep adding new stuff and I'm sure even in the future with more content out of the roadmap being released, such as the scriptable AI/Missions we are experimenting with or improvements in the modding system the gameplay will end up having a bit more variety

I think it still needs a more interesting singleplayer gameplay system. Just capturing points one by one is not very engaging. Especially when it's literally just a single line of points.
Maybe some kinda conquest mode? Like, a large campaign map that lets you pick a location to fight over for strategic advantage and then it drops you into the real time battle and its outcome is carried over and changes the campaign map. Assymetrical battles based on situation and resources. It would make winning a battle mean something else than just a check mark.

Maybe also some kinda special operations missions behind enemy lines, Medal Of Honor style.

Think also it would help to somehow make the AI squads take various paths, try to flank, provide base of fire and such and take more cover rather than all roughly just navigating towards the capture point from their start point.

It's okay to take a break and play other games too. Modern AAA games with all their daily objectives and season pass live service nonsense seem to have created a culture where people feel like they have to "main" a single game, and if they get bored, then it's a sign that a game is "dying" or whatever. Just take a break and play other things for a while. Come back to this one after some time has passed, and it will probably feel fresh again.

I think the main issue is the AI seems programmed to "take the point" instead of "clear the point" which is a big difference. If they were to be programmed to clear it first, they may keep distance and think tactically of ways to clear the point of enemies. As it is now, many run in and just attempt to stay in the cap zone and force a blob until they get a timed surrender. And since bots don't know how to melee well it often feels a bit broken. This only happens on some and not all points but it is a big low point flow wise in the gameplay loop that could be fixed with AI objective adjustments.

Most of these issues would be or will be fixed once marco starts focusing on Close Quarters AI since THATS where the AI struggles the most

Just you.
I've got 360 hours into it. Still my favourite shooter.

way i see it, compared to other ww2 shooters that do the same and offer no objective based modes, this is the best of them all, offers everything single and multiplayer while being easy to run so more can enjoy the game, available on ALL platforms, easily moddable ETC which make this a Standout title imo it may not be the most graphicaly pleasing or AI may not be the best at times, but it definetly offers what most other shooters miss on in certain spots

People forget that ER2 is not just a WW2 shooter, but a very niche Sandbox FPS similar to Ravenfield or Rising Front. I feel that compared to these other shooters that ER2 blows things out of the water in mission customization. I played Ravenfield but left completely after being burnt out from how much time it took to set up a simple match any time I wanted to try a new mod. Spending 30+ hours in the mission editor in ER2 is more rewarding than loading up Rf and getting hit with splattered paint balls because one mutator is wrong.

Yep. I want to add to to this, since I almost made a thread yesterday about the subject. ER2 is basically a sandbox battle sim, it shouldn't be limited to one war. Marco made a great decision by focusing on lesser known WW2 battles as it has snowballed on the workshop to go beyond just further niche WW2 battles, but niche wars and lesser known wars too. I see Rif War, Russian Civil War, Chinese Civil War, various small scale Cold War conflicts and even the extremely obscure, miniscule barely known shootout between cops and vets over 1946 USA election results is represented in this game in the workshop. It's amazing and so good, and Marco is now widening his own scope with Second Sino Japanese War content too (though arguable that is WW2 and excluded for political reasons). I also see a lot of fictional war content too, there is one workshop mod that has airships battling in the sky and you spawn infantry on the airships.

So I was going to make a thread asking everyones opinions on non WW2 era content. Personally, I'd love to see some Russo-Japanese War content, 1904-1905 it's basically proto WW1 and had the largest land battle (Battle of Mukden), largest naval battle (Battle of Tsushima) and IIRC largest siege (Siege of Port Arthur) at the time of the events happening. Superseded later by WW1 and WW2, so it's often overlooked. But honsetly this war would be amazing to get some content for.

Additionally some other wars that I'd like to see content for that seem like they'd fit ER2's mold. The Franco-Prussian War from 1870-1871 would be awesome to see as well as the Abyssinian war from 1935-36 and the Spanish Civil War from 1936-1939. Also First Sino Japanese War (1894-1895) would be neat too, and would probably not be too hard to make as a mod once Second Sino Japanese War DLC is out. Lastly the Polish-Soviet War and Winter War and probably Korea deserves more content too. There should be a Chosin Reservoir mission.

make your own scenarios. if its still boring its not games fault but a "you" thing. trust me,this game never gets boring when you can create things yourself, maps missions etc

Early seaborne invasions such as this WW1 Baltic Island landing, and also the combined French and Spanish seaborne landing during the Rif war are of interest to me. IIRC the French landed with FT-17's in the mid 1920's. The "inter war" period ironically has a lot of it's own wars.

This.

Easy Red II is an amazing game, and I don't play it very often. And that's okay. It's always there if I want to.
