How?
Can someone tell me how to beat Saint Laurent Sur Mer? (or however you spell it) As far as I can tell, Americans surrender every time and it's unwinnable.

Just played it twice again. When you get to the mortar pit where there are 900 Germans hold up, my units start get into close combat and then my guys surrender. Is this automatically supposed to happen every time? What gives with this? I've tried it now about 50 times with the same result. Insanity is it?

I'll double check it, in the meantime you can beat it as german if you need to win it to progress the campaign

I just replayed from both sides and easily won from each side on Realistic. As with many battles in this game, it is about momentum and attacking along side your AI teammates. Wait for the AI to catch up to you, throw smoke and then regular grenades, assault the position, hold the position, and then quickly move on to assault the next position. If you assault a position without AI help, there is a good chance you'll surrender even if you capture the position. You need your AI teammates.

I see, thanks. I figured there was some procedure I wasn't doing right. I'll try again.

Yup. Three more tries. Three surrenders in a row. Guess I'm not holding my mouth right. I give for real. The definition of insanity, even though I've tried many different ways to beat this.

What exactly are the settings you're playing on? I didn't remember this mission giving me any issues, so I replayed it just now as Allies to test with Max Proportional Bots and beat it in both Normal and Realistic settings without any problems. I also tried it on the default bot amount on Realistic and same thing.

From the sound of it, you might be trying to take the mortar pit ahead of too much of your team. It's also recommended you cap the other objective on that phase first too if you aren't doing so already. You (and friendly AI) will surrender if you're being suppressed when the enemy completes (re)capturing an objective you're on, and the Germans swarm that mortar pit so you have to make sure your whole team is focusing on it and not still divided trying to take the other position.

I've been given four attempts as Amercans. Furthest where I went was in that AA/ mortar pit behind a church. Its too fooked up. Am with a OP side, there is somehting wrong with that mission. Germans are swarming the spots like nowhere in any other missions. Either other missions are too easy or this one is too unbalanced, favours axis.

BS. Was doing fine. On my original grunt all the way to the mortar pit which I was attacking alongside a whole platoon. And then the killing started. They're swarming the area faster than they can be mowed down. Maybe if they let me spawn as the Stuart which was still alive I could have turned it around, but there wasn't enough dakka, even by normal never enough dakka standards.

Only other thing I recommend is quickly clearing out all the pits and then positioning yourself with automatic weapons (LMGs/SMGs) ahead of the pits facing where the Germans approach from before they can reach the pits again. Friendly AI have a hard time keeping the pits clear but are a lot more effective at hitting the enemy during the approach.

And yeah, using the Stuart also makes it easy.
