What exactly are the settings you're playing on? I didn't remember this mission giving me any issues, so I replayed it just now as Allies to test with Max Proportional Bots and beat it in both Normal and Realistic settings without any problems. I also tried it on the default bot amount on Realistic and same thing.
From the sound of it, you might be trying to take the mortar pit ahead of too much of your team. It's also recommended you cap the other objective on that phase first too if you aren't doing so already. You (and friendly AI) will surrender if you're being suppressed when the enemy completes (re)capturing an objective you're on, and the Germans swarm that mortar pit so you have to make sure your whole team is focusing on it and not still divided trying to take the other position.
BS. Was doing fine. On my original grunt all the way to the mortar pit which I was attacking alongside a whole platoon. And then the killing started. They're swarming the area faster than they can be mowed down. Maybe if they let me spawn as the Stuart which was still alive I could have turned it around, but there wasn't enough dakka, even by normal never enough dakka standards.
And yeah, using the Stuart also makes it easy.
